Gary Numan was great at the Leadmill last night. For me he falls into the category of ‘been around long enough he must be doing something right’ and I was pleasantly suprised at how good he sounded.

Start of the festival season for me this week with Bearded Theory and then Red Rooster the following weekend.

Can not wait! Love music, being outside, camping, eating, drinking and having fun….just need the weather to brighten up again!

I wanted to see Gary Numan, but I have maxed out my budget for the year with the tickets I have already bought (Glastonbury messing with it the most).

@desperatebicycle, more goodness at the Wedge. Pom Poko 7th October. They have been great every time I have seen them.

The Staves earlier at SWX in Bristol. Been a while since they last toured, but still as good as ever. Great songs with sublime harmonies, that somehow only siblings seem to manage. Miss seeing and hearing them without their younger sister who left four years ago when she had her daughter.

Saw Gary Numan on Tuesday in Glasgow. Sound was ok for the venue, Gary’s voice seemed a bit off, but not too distractingly so, it was still a good gig.

I’ve seen him loads of times, one of those where I don’t have a lot of his studio stuff, but accidentally saw him at the qmu in the early 2000s and was impressed by the performance and how genuine he comes across on stage. Pretty much a guaranteed decent gig.

    Janes Addiction next week…:-)

Love the Staves! They’re not touring anywhere near me this year unfortunately.

Went to see the subtle and understated Mr B Springsteen last night in Sunderland. Never seen him before, it was an incredible 3 hrs of rawk with saxaphones and that bloke from the Sopranos on guitar. Good times!

“that bloke from the Sopranos on guitar

He seems to be mostly all about “that face” – or at least did it whenever he was on the big screens. Could be an affectation, I was too tight to pay for the expensive tickets so was a bit far away to know for real.

Ah, right. I only ever go to gigs where I can see their faces so can’t really relate! :D

Busy few days, with dot2dot festival of which the highlights were Panic Shack and Anthony Szmierek.

Then last night English Teacher at Rescue rooms. The whole set was great with You Blister My Paint being a highlight.  PXL_20240528_203634335_exported_0

The Hirsch Effekt this evening. Probably the greatest contrast between recording and live act I’ve witnessed. A fantastic live band if you like interesting heavy music.

just back from Ferocious Dog at Lincoln Drill.  2nd time ive seen them and love them even more now, they were great.  1st time for my daughter (big boy band fan so she wasnt expecting to enjoy them really) but she was right at the front and enjoyed it waaaaay more than i expected her to.

Jane’s Addiction last night at the Apollo in Manchester.

Support from Humanist, who weren’t really my cup of tea, and it was bloody hot up at the top of the Apollo.

But! Jane’s Addiction were ace. It was always going to be either amazing or awful, and thankfully it was the former. I was slightly sad there was no steel drum for “Jane Says” but otherwise pretty much flawless.

Slightly against my better judgment I’ve given in and picked up some face value tickets for the Liam Gallagher doing Definitely Maybe thing (02 next Monday). Anyone else willing to admit to going to any of the dates? The Guardian review was surprisingly positive.

Saw Air do Moon Safari at the Albert hall on Friday. Didn’t have the greatest seats and could have done with being a tad louder as a couple of the quieter numbers sounded a little thin. Enjoyed it though. Soundtrack to me and my wife’s early days. In a similar vein a month or so back we saw Nightmares on Wax play Carboot Soul at the Festival hall with orchestra. That was a cracker. Probably need to make an effort to see something less than 20 years old next gig though!

Rodrigo y Gabriela and the cat empire for me this month (on separate weekends) first gigs I will have been to for years.

I saw the Lovely Eggs on Friday night – they were great – really got the crowd going and make a lot of noise for just 2 people.

Next up, Richard Hawley in Leic on Wednesday which should be a good one.

A bunch of us saw them in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago – they were excellent. It was the third time I’ve seen them in the last couple of years, but the first with the full band not the acoustic trio. Both versions are very good. Were the Cloverhearts supporting? What did you think of them?

I remember Moon safari being on when a girlfriend stayed over one night, and her questioning my choice of porn music. :D  I still love that album.

Day ticket for Latitude on the Friday has been acquired. Vaccines, Goldfrapp and Mr Turner are the highlights with loads of other stuff to fill the time with. Didn’t manage to get there last year as I injured an eye and spent the days going backwards and forwards to the optician.

Saw Richard Hawley at the Usher hall who was really good but never realised how tight it is for room on the upper circle, you want to be max 5’7″ to sit comfortably

Much louder guitar based than the Queens Hall a few years back

Off to see the Breeders end of the month at Rock City.
The last time we got to see them was at the Kentish forum several years back when we took our two teenaged girls who sat that all night on their phones.
This time it’s just the two of us, so we can get to the front for the push and shove.

Pre order tickets reserved for the Mary Chain at the end of the years.

    @IdleJon
they were indeed but i didnt see enough of them to get a proper opinion sadly.  went in to watch and they seemed lively enough but the rest of our lot were in the bar yapping so i went to join them.  did i miss out?  you liked them?

I went to Jane’s Addiction at the Apollo. They were good but really lame audience only gig I’ve been to for years with virtually no audience movement. Middle aged moshers were sadly lacking down at the front, kind of put a dampner on the night for me.

Almost. We were stood too close to the speaker stack when they were on so couldn’t appreciate the bagpipes or tin whistle in among the general noisiness! :D  As you say, lots of energy, but when I listened to an acoustic album of theirs that I found on Apple music it sounded like a different band. They were almost good enough, if you know what I mean, so I fancied another opinion.

2 gigs recently – Baxter Dury and Richard Thompson, both at the Glasshouse (ex-Sage) Gateshaead.  Baxter Dury was full-on, to say the least.  Richard Thompson had a full electric band (including his grandson and his latest wife) and was as superb as ever, in fact he seems to get better.  Not bad for 74.

Jane’s Addiction at the Barrowlands last Friday.  Fantastic!   Caught a bit of Humanist too who I thought were decent.

Got a ticket for Amyl and the Sniffers in Glasgow later this year – always a fantastic live band.

Looks like you’ve posted a lineup from about 1992. Might want to check again
