Watching the race on Sunday, I felt a moment of relief for Palmer, for outqualifying his much fancied team mate AND for bringing the Renault in for the first points of the season.

And then he spun.

I strongly suspect he’ll be keeping the seat warm for someone, now.

Magnusen seems stock around the 15 mark anyway that car just do not have much speed it seems.

With any luck Haryanto will make way for ocon or Van doorne after the summer break too. Hopefully the next year or 2 will see a few of the old guard bowing out (kimi, massa, button, alonso) and allow the “feeder” series to actually feed drivers into f1.

Red Bull / Toro Rosso are extremely mercenary when it comes to drivers, but you can’t deny they have an eye for talent.

Aye – that’s been said on a few F1 forums. Lewis’s problems in Baku were peoples first thoughts, and the championship could be decided on the points lost there.

There are always changes in interpretation of rules or new fia technical directives issued during the season – mass dampers, frics, bendy wings, double diffusers, fan cars, dual chassis etc etc. We don’t get to hear about most of them as it’s usually one team asking if they can do something and Charlie saying no. In fact I wonder what the record is for most consecutive races without an fia clarification in the last 10 years, I’d guess that 6 is too many.

True – but how many that have already seen punishments and points deductions for infringements?

The rules at the time of the/any ‘infringement’ were, are and will be the same for the whole grid so debates about ‘what if’s’ and ‘if only ….’ are pretty pointless. It’s all infinite, an inch this way, an inch the other, all split second decisions can be the difference between winning and losing, even life and death.

That’s not to say there shouldn’t be some bleedin stability in th rules and regs though!! 😡

My understanding is that they’ll take a full 2 engines to give them a pool of parts.

Makes sense to take it at Spa being a true power circuit. Wouldn’t fancy stretching the current bits through that race…

Had to laugh at Britney on the radio when told of his 5 second penalty, ‘I don’t understand, I had full lock on’.

Did we miss a conversation there telling him he was under investigation? Because he didn’t have to ask why he’d got a penalty. Somebody needs to teach him what an apex is.

And fat tyres where seen as part of F1.

The cars do look more purposeful with fatter tyres, there’s something pleasingly retro about it.

Here’s hoping that we get sonorous V12 engines back one day, along with trackside punch ups a la Salazar vs Piquet.

I thought Pirelli were always a bit meh on 18″ rims – it was Michelin and Bridgestone that said they wouldn’t come back to F1 unless it adopted them.

So why do F1 cars have tyres with such tall sidewalls? I thought short side walls give better performance as the tyre doesn’t squirm under hard cornering?
