Labour can celebrate. 40% of vote this time compared to 31% under EM.

They’ve had a moral victory over their detractors and they dont have to tidy TMs mess! (yet)

Loyalist murals are brilliant, genuinely funny/scary in equal measure, youse should look up more.. art attack hasn’t a look in! 😆

Sadly, its real, and is an updated version of a mural that’s been around for a while in Lurgan.

    Yes, of course it is:

If only the 450 million pounds of tax payers money Arlene personally pissed away with her “Renewable Heat Incentive” scheme was some kind of photoshoped joke. Or the fact that the DUP consistently used their petition of concern (a mechanism from the Good Friday agreement intended to counter sectarianism) to effectively ban gay marriage.

Or when creationist Edwin Poots (who believes the earth is 4000 years old) was health minister and he refused to allow gay men to give blood. That sounds like a joke, but it’s not. Mr Poots also tried to ban gay coupls from adopting. Or when Iris Robinson, former DUP minister and wife of former first minister Peter Robinson claimed gay people were an abomination, and that they could be cured by psychotherapy. That sounds like a joke, but it’s not.

    EDIT: £490 MILLION.

Yeah to be fair that “definitely real and not at all photoshopped” mural looks an awful lot like this one:

It´s clearly photoshopped and yer unlikely to find dup murals, but still look them up if ye want a laugh! 😆

All those complaining about the DUP would be well served to remember that this is exacrly what happens in coalition politics under Proportional Representation.

Very interesting piece from BBc here (apologies if aleady posted). Tories got Scotland right but England very wrong. What’s fascinating is they had two different teams of internal strategists/pollsters

What a splendid day! The realisation that we are starting to reject those worst impulses that led to Brexit and grow up a bit.

Even our office blowhard was quiet today. He often churns out a made-up story about seeing a Big Issue seller pack up and get into a brand new BMW, you know, that kind of stuff.

He did have a go at banging the drum at about a quarter to five by saying “the conservatives are still in power”. I pointed out that this was only due to an untenable alliance with a marginal (in every sense of the word) party. Oh, and the former FBI director has stated under oath that Trump(who he also idolises) lied. This is likely to lead, at some point, to Trump having to take the stand and repeat the lie, under oath. Then the fun really starts.

Bless em. The likes of chewie (assuming he’s not just a troll) actually believed they were ‘part of something’ and that it was time to ‘sort the liberal handwringers out once and for all’. Instead, they’ve just made themselves look a bit unhinged.

One last thought. I wonder which of the parties it is easiest for people to be open about voting for. I know a lot of people, rightly, say it is a confidential ballot. I know that a lot of people on both sides are aggressive about who they vote for. But I suspect amongst the middle ground, there are an awful lot of people who look and feel uneasy when they admit to voting Tory. I don’t think this exists so much with middle ground Labour voters. Almost like being selfish is something to be ashamed of??

The wailing will be done by Conservatives when the merest hint of association with a bunch of totally incompetent stone age bigots destroys any credibility the party had. The only good that will come of this will hopefully be extra scrutiny and scorn poured on the DUP when the DUP inevitably start doing DUP things.

That you starting to ramp up to full DUP mode now? 😆 good luck with that..

ps I’m not shocked in the slightest, been warning people of it since the hung parliament was first mooted.

what under PR your majority goes from an expected 100-150 to 50-100 to 75 to oh shit we are lumped in with them and I always said it was unwise to have an election

Why is your memory so hazy about what you say and why do you ignore corrections

It could easily be mistaken for brazen dishonesty

Secondly all day your posts have warned other folk [ PR if May goes etc] and not said how you feel

So how do you feel about it all today ?

Don’t for one second think the DUP coalition will work! This is not the LibDems trying to gently ease the Tories in various directions with vaguely defined notions like ‘economic recovery’.

The DUP has a narrow field of interest and focus and very ‘assertive’ supporters to appease. Very soon they will test the water with regards to how much they are really need by the Tories and the result will make whoever is PM very, very uncomfortable. It’s the marching season soon – expect a forced show of solidarity in the not too distant future.

It’s remarkable that they would spend so much time painting Corbyn as a terrorist sympathiser, only to then jump into a coallition with genuine terrorist sympathisers.

What can possibly go wrong in NI when the DUP are effectively in power, with the executive currently broken, there is now no reason to negotiate with sinn féin. Just a reminder that republicans were arrested with 6kg of Semtex a couple of weeks ago.

But who gives a s*** if a few paddies kill themselves…

Whoops- sorry, maybe that is photoshopped- apologies. My NI colleague said it was famous, but it seems its this one:

I think the biggest question is how desparate are the tories to cling on to power. How far will the DUP be able to manipulate them.

Not me. I had voted Tory up until this time and tried to defend what I thought were their values on here before.

Its the obvious move to get into bed with DUP. Should be very funny. What will the DUP extract for a supply and confidence deal?

As I said above, it’s marching season soon. My guess is we’ll find out then.

The DUP have a comparatively small number of things they need to do to keep their supporters on-side, problem is a lot of these things are not palatable to your average voter on the mainland. The DUP don’t need the Tories, so expect some fairly wince-inducing tests of ‘good faith’ very soon.

It’s unworkable, and will rapidly unravel.

Much more so. They are like a perfect engine of incompetence, with an almost unlimited history of racism, sectarianism, homophobia and bigotry for the media to mine.

For example when Sammy Wilson agreed with a UDA statement in which they said the would ethnically cleanse Northern Ireland of catholics, should the British Army ever leave. Or again, Sammy Wilson when he commented that gays were perverts and “taigs” were sub human scum.

Or that time when the previous DUP First Minister Peter Robinson led a paramilitary force across the border into the Irish Republic, assaulting the police and staging a mock military parade.

Ah thanks for that, I thought she had single-handedly combined the two parties.
