Shes got much more talent than all them Spice Slappers put together – and she always looks lovely and femenine on TV – a nice change

except you said that 2 months ago…

There has been a reduction. Normal bellytude will be resumed shortly.

and to say she got where she is ‘cos of her daddy is just lazy Daily Mail type comments.

Because of course, Keith Allen badgering all his meeja mates had nothing to do with getting her stuff played, oh no… 🙄

Her voice is so weak – it must get turned right up for recording.

shes rubbish – from what I’ve seen of her I’d agree with RustySpanner, thought he put it very well

I have to agree with harry the spider – not only is she somewhat of a hound, she looks like a mouth breather. Talentless self absorbed coke hoover.

Sometimes, some of the posts on this site make me wonder about folk…Talk about bitter and resentful.

    I’ve never liked her.

Her “singing” is not a patch on other women of her ilk (someone mentioned Bjork earlier who is, quite frankly, a legend) and her chat show was dire. It reminded me of The Word, but without the style.

Sorry, but even the “Cutesy” thing is not enough to make me like her.

Bob Dylan can’t sing for shit…

In these celebrity driven times, she has all she needs to be famous.
Her music is irritating cack. Not a patch on Girls Aloud in the Pop stakes.
Cover of the NME…how times have changed…

yes, especially considering she wrote her 1st album herself (on the others she co-wrote) and you heard any of her live lounge stuff?

not my taste really, but its its decent pop and she isn’t pretending to be someone else which is nice, as half the shit in the charts are just clones of US bands/groups.

I think probably if dear Lily is still (?) a defining cultural figure in 45 years time we will forgive her hopeless singing voice, as we forgive Dylan his. But if we accept that every arrogant 20-something who can’t really sing is effectively as great a musical talent as Dylan is then hell, I’m one as well. Where do I sign? 😉

oh I forgot, she does whine like only a Londoner can, which is annoying, but then again she doesn’t whine nearly as much as RB which is a small mercy

Her new single is utterly beyond parody: “It’s not fair and I think you’re really mean.”

If you made that up to take the p*** people would think you weren’t trying hard enough.

Agree with Big Dummy – She’s an utter genius at self-publicity, punches well above her weight in terms of celeb rankings. The mouth of the south.

She’s fun, her songs are sweet little ditties with hidden nasty barbs, she’s an OK singer, and I’m surprised she’s not even more popular.

    ZOkes, what photos?

Seems fairly harmless, and she’s not got a whiny northern accent, thank god.

isn’t it rather ironic that a bunch of talentless nonentities criticise someone who isn’t for being one ?

    I’m sure you’ll have noticed I haven’t criticised her 🙂

She does look like Jade Goody’s little sister, though.

I didn’t say she was, I was merely making the point that singing ability and song-writing talent aren’t necessarily the same thing, and Dylan’s obvious lack of singing ability hasn’t hampered his career. It just annoys me that apparently “because” her Dad is a minor Celeb it automatically means that she’s had everything handed to her on a plate. Her Album sales alone would suggest that she’s pretty popular. I’m just surprised at the level of misogynistic abuse aimed at her on this thread

No I would say, but she is individual and not afraid to speak her mind, which is refreshing in the world of pop!

Simon, I suspect if you take that argument to its logical conclusion then you will find that criticism of Paris Hilton, Jodie Marsh and other leading cultural icons of our age is impermissible. Despite being a person of no account myself, I am not really willing to accept that I have no right to say, of Paris for example, “I really do not see why you’re interesting”.

There are are two strands to this. Does the Allen person have any enduring talent for music? And does she have a talent for something else? Clearly she is not a non-entity. But it seems unfair to outlaw the holding of the opinion that the reason she is not a non-entity is in fact that she is a well-connected self-publicist rather than a musical genius. 🙂

She looks like her father. Which isn’t a nice thing to wake up next to.

I googled her lyrics after someone on here said about how good they were. ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH?? These are good lyrics in the sense that Father Ted’s eurovision song had good lyrics.

you may say it but it’s kinda “So what?”. I’m not outlawing anything, just drawing attention to the irony.

I don’t care if folk don’t like her music (what she’s famous for on the face of it), and you can happily argue all day about her talent or lack of it, what grates is that it’s apparently OK to make pretty stinging comments about because she’s 1) the daughter of Keith Allen, (not that she can help who her Dad is) 2) A woman singer 3) reasonably, but not stunningly attractive.

I thought we’d left all that shit behind us…

    You speak from experience?!

It’s light hearted, easy listening pop. She can sing reasonably well, she presents it in a nice way, she’s reasonably attractive. She’s no world-shattering musical genius or lyrical god, but certanly has more singing/musical talent than the vast majority of the population must, so I suspect that makes her talented.

Personally dont think the media has a lot to answer for on the whole promoting thin people thing, but people who suggest she has bingo-wings on the way or a fat arse really do have a distorted view of reality.

She looks nothing like Jade Goody.
She looks a little like her father – really, you dont say?!
She can’t sing – in comparison with Pavarotti no, in comparison with most acts in teh charts – yes. In comparison with Bjork, hell yes.
She cant write lyrics – again, in comparison with most artists out there she’s up in the top end. In comparison with simon and garfunkel – no.
Does she have connections in the business – of course. Is that the only reason she is successful, of course not – it was a helping hand though I’m sure!

I think she’s got bags of songwriting talent and I’m not a fan of most chart music. Her songs are witty, a little bit naughty and catchy as hell.
Her singing is kind of cutesy sweet, but I’ll admit she hasn’t got a very strong voice and it looks like singing live is hard work and sometimes a bit shaky.

She’s also looking well-fit at the moment!

I agree, except that I really like the music too. Her first album is a favourite of mine (No heard the second yet) A different sound that made me stop and listen, unlike all these modern pop guitar bands that I really can’t tell one from the other – Keane, Snow Patrol and the like.

She didn’t become famous because of her musical talent though did she? She became famous as Keith Allen’s singing daughter.

Who has attacked her for being a ‘woman singer’?

And if she is going to appear in ridiculous photos like the ones above which have no relevance to her music at all then she can expect to be ridiculed. She is the one who is using her body to make money, so what do you expect? For us all to say, phwoarrrr, I’d do ‘er/look at the face on that? Or to be sensitive, pc, 21st century metrosexuals and be ever so polite?

FWIW, I don’t really mind her at all. Just puzzles me that people feel they have to defend things that aren’t worth defending. She’s only an average singer guys, find something else worth getting worked up about.

Sorry, don’t see the visual link between Lily and St. Jade.

She’s a *pop* singer and not a bad one at that. Who knows how she will develop in the future? But for now I quite enjoy her product for what it is, catchy pop music.

and I though she was made famous through facebook or myspace and got her recording contract through that. It was only afterwards she let everyone know who her dad was.

regardless, if you are a better musician than her, link to some of your stuff so people can judge for themselves if you are better than her, or STFU

An average singer/talent at best, but “The Fear” (her best track, imo) was an above average pop song which I quite liked.

Is this a special rule applying to Lily Allen, or does it also apply to, say, the Chancellor of the Exchequer or the Prime Minister? 🙂

Really cannot see the resemblance to Jade either, BTW…
