I need to get the derailleur off to have a look if any plates are bent but has anyone else had this?

Loosing the chain off the top jockey wheel slips down the inside of the cage. V strange and still doing it after replacing worn cassette and chain.

Yes. I bent the plates a fraction closer in. V easy to bend so I assume they had got bent before by a stick or similar.

Ok will have a play. Sounds like it’s not a write off then Cheers

Some of the SRAM mechs have specific orientation/placement of bearing shield and inserts, and it can be a pain in the arse keeping track of which bit should go where. Not sure about your mech, though….

Yeah, not a write off. Don’t bend it too far in, just enough to avoid a chain-magnet gap. Too far and it will rub in some gears.

I bent the plates slightly closer together for one mech. There are tiny direction arrows on Shimano jockey wheels if you’ve had them out. Also a ridge to stop the chain getting wedged, in theory. The 12 speed mechs should look slightly twisted to help line up with the chain and chainring in different gears. I had big problems with a small twig getting stuck and bending everything out of shape, bizarrely even the top jockey wheel got warped and had bent teeth.

Had this as well, went to bend the cage tighter to the jockey wheels and noticed a crack in the cage. Had a new mech spare that got out on and the problem stopped

Happens a lot with my slx 12sp. Will try bending the plates, cheers.

Got to say this is the most finnicky drivetrain I’ve used in 17 years of mtbing.

It also gets stuck in the big sprocket all the time too. Even after new clutch. Driving me mad!!!

So the inside plate on my SLX 12 speed is cracked 🙁
Part seems out of stock everywhere that lists it so it might be a complete new derailleur job. They do seem a bit flimsy don’t they?!

Wondering if the XT for £25 more is a better buy quality-wise or the is it just the same cage?

What about a Deore mech – that might have a steel cage – possibly move over? I don’t know if this is possible – just an idea

I’m sure I’ve read the slx cage is flimsier than the XT one – can’t remember where I read it though.
