Car roll call – what have you owned?

2001 Citroen Berlingo – awesome piece of French engineering. Totally bottom of the range, but it swallowed bikes whole and picked it’s own lines round corners…and was therefore ace. It’s lack of refinement/comfort meant I recently (and sadly) got rid of it for a
end of an era – the twinkly dave green machine is gone …. – gone are the days of you arriving at races on an RAC flatbed 😀
toby1Full MemberThe hall of fame/shame!
C reg Fiat Uno 1.1l first car – killed it!
H reg Peugeot 205 1l – killed that in the end too.
Brief sabatical from driving including a 6 month enforced one (I’m not proud of it)
V reg Peugeot 206 1.1l – recently sold it as the Head Gasket was on it’s way out.
52 Reg Peugeot 206 1.4l – on loan from my Mum till I’ve banked some cash, the plan is to finally drive a decent car and get a Civic type R later in the year.bikebouyFree Member2CV

1984 Vauxhall Nova 1.3 SR
1988 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit, with a 2 Litre 16v engine, gearbox and brake conversion from a Cailbra. Still kept the 1.2 badges, the only giveaway was 14″ alloys to accomodate the brakes, a larger bore exhaust and lower ride height. Lots of torque-steer, but could out accelarate a 911!

1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo
1991 Renaut Clio Cup racing car
1993 Ford Escort XR3i
1994 Ford Escort RS2000
1992 VW Golf VR6
1988 BMW E30 M3 – Left hand drive, fantastic handling and induction noise. Wish I still has it as they’re worth a fortune now.
1988 BMW E30 M3 – As above
1989 BMW E30 M3 Evo II – As above, but with 20 more bhp and different aero package, only 500 built. Now worth about 3 times what I sold it for…
1998 Citroen Xsara VTS – Awfull car, loads of electrical faults (the loom rubbed where it went through the bulkhead and caused a minor fire), terribly notchy gearbox – nice engine though!
1996 Ford Escort RS2000 – sounded like an old BDA engined escort with modified induction and a straight through exhaust. The best of the FWD escorts, shame about the rust.Current
2002 MG ZS 180 – Bought the week MG went bust for £2500 at 3 years old with 25k on the clock. Is actually a great car as the chassis is essentially the same as a Honda Integra DC2, but with a lightweight all alloy V6 under the bonnet. Thanks to an MG forum I’ve been able to keep it running as it should without too many dramas.
1995 BMW M3 Convertible – Was my dream car since I saw several Drum & Bass Dj’s leaving Dreamscape 20 in them. The sound of the six cylinder engine is fantastic with the roof down. Still looks good to me.
2006 Skoda Octavia VRS (petrol) – Sensible family car, comfortable, quiet, massive boot and will do high 30’s mpg on a run. Good for surprising a few reps in their diesel Audi A4’s and BMW 3 series.

– Mk 3 VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI – Comfy cruiser, or twisty road rocketship. Good fun, and still get 50mpg, although I wish I could afford to run the 211bhp 2.0 petrol.Apparently our next car will “need” to have 5 doors, so I’m thinking Golf GTI or GTD.

Funnily enough, out of my list only 4 were actually sold! The rest died or were traded in (luckily through brother in the trade).
bikebouyFree MemberHahahaha… I had to replace the 5’s GTI turbo twice (both under warranty) but the spine was intact until I span it off the road in the wet and ended upside down in a field.. At the time I laughed, now I ache, hahaha. It was fast though.. I do have fond memories of it chasing my mates down country lanes in thier XR3’s and Astra GTI’s.. Oh how the giggles ensued and the tyres burned rubber. The switches I recall were pants and the gearstick kept jamming in 2nd.. Good car though, great laugh far better fun than the XR2 that followed on..

That’s fairly consistant with my one and only experience with one. Dunno if it was just the one I drove or not, but it had a vicious, massive turbo that came in all at once but had turbo lag of about a fortnight. Accelerating you’d think “man, this is really slow” until the turbo had finished taking a deep breath, then you’d suddenly get an almighty kick in the kidneys and have to hold on for dear life.
I’m reasonably convinced that the most common expiry method for Renault 5 GT Turbos was teenagers accelerating hard through tight bends and then abruptly finding themselves in a nearby field rotating gently on their roof.
Loopy, loopy motor.
