Possibly more in keeping with the ethos here if we got a “hate” button first? 😉

It’s be more useful than that Share button which I don’t think I’ve ever used, I’ve never seen anyone else use, and which massively slows down the page loading.

There’s a Share button? Must be blocking it….

    There is a report-post button…

Hmm, I don’t see it as the post load script hides it and stops it irritating me, but it would be more efficient to stop it loading…

I’ve not intentionally blocked it, so I’m guessing it’s an AddThis Widget..

Yeah it is the addthis.com – I noticed that the status regularly got stuck on “Waiting for addthis.com” so I manually blocked it (using ABP of Firefox) and the page loads went back to being near instant.

Only problem with Ghostery is that some sites, eg Screwfix, won’t work until you either whitelist the whole site or work out which things the site needs to work. Most sites work fine with it just blocking everything though….

although use or discussion of such tools is prohibited by STW ‘rules’.

    “just saying”

I thought promotion of the tools was banned, discussing them in relevant context of something was permitted (other threads have existed). Plus Ghostery doesn’t block ads (that I know of), just trackers and annoying widgets which no one uses but slow websites down.

Tried the share button once but it shared the whole forum page instead of the thread

Wow. Just installed ABP and the speed difference is amazing. Clearly I will uninstal it now to appreciate all the adverts and slowness of this site

Just pay £2 a month and become a Pro memeber, you get no ads and loads of freebies like regular invites to STW Towers coke and hooker parties…

As a pro, you stil get the SHARE button though.

You can set up Ghostery to block all sorts of nasties (hidden and otherwise), without blocking revenue making stuff.

Cool, does that mean it’s OK to discuss it then? The difference it makes to page loading speed is massive. Having checked it does all appear to be down to the AddThis widget, which from what I can see is nothing to do with the revenue making features, it simply adds a “feature” which hardly anybody uses (personally I’ve still been downloading it, but have been hiding it for ages with the extension I use as I find it spoils the look of the page, irrespective of the time wasted – preventing the download was on my todo list). So if anybody involved in the site does turn up here, don’t you think you’ve made the site worse with that feature?

I expect Myspace integration around 2018-19. What’s this ‘Like’ thing all about then?

    Nah.

Then you get people quoting entire posts verbatim just to say “Nah”.

Would someone explain what function a like button serves.
As far as I can see, admittedly having never used such a thing, all it is is a lazy way of saying ” I thinks that is nice”
What a pointless thing to do.
