Anyone else resurrected any of their older bikes? So far I’ve gave my Planet X SL, Rooster and Pugsley a wash and refresh. All as much fun as they used to be…. maybe not the PXSL mind. Still a few to go. Horsethief and Reign still to do, and a pile of retrobikes.

I’ve dusted off all my mountain bikes and been enjoying them again.

Last to go is my Salsa Big Mama, need to get the forks sent off for a service and a rebuilt rear wheel and she’ll be good to go. Can’t believe it’s been sat there unloved for a good 5 years.

I just got given back my 1995 Specialized Hardrock GX after I lent it to someone 20 years ago!

My first ‘mountain bike’, rigid forks, quill stem, cantilever brakes, 3×7 grip shift. I used it for a couple of years before upgrading to a Pro-flex 2000.

Not quite sure what to do with it – frame is immaculate – drive train unsurprisingly ‘worn’, headset very worn. I’ll definitely be hanging onto it for old times’ sake – might fit the 2×10 XT setup gathering dust in the garage – or go single speed (never had single speed before). Perfect pub\shops bike anyway!

Ordinarily I’d say leave as is but 3×7 gripshift would even test my retro principles. Still I do think older MTBs do make great gravel bikes👍 just as long as you aren’t expecting to huck and schralp too much.

I had an ala carte about the same era as the big Mama. Lovely to ride.

Yeah – I (eventually) got back the wee Ti hardtail I’d leant to someone on STW. I wasn’t sure what to do with it but bought a SS convertor kit and some rigid forks and turned into my pub/shopping/runabout bike.

I had all my bike stolen last summer (6 of mine, 8 in total)

This had me riding just one bike, a gravel/all road one.

A friend that buys and sells old Kona MTBs gave me a nearly finished Fire Mountain (1997 with yes, 3×7 Gripshift 😂) as a gift. It rides pretty well and is good fun tbh.

So far I’ve revised the following in recent weeks:
    – Soul (switched to 1×11 and a more XC spec)
    – Inbred (switched from rigid singlespeed to a 1×10 XC set-up)

I’ve also got all the bits for my old S-Works Enduro to go 1×11 as well, and I’ve dusted down my BFe (which was already 1×10) and given it a few rides.

My Epic is staying 3×9 for the moment as it’s a struggle to get it the gearing it needs with 1x without going 12 speed.

He’re the rebuilt Soul and Inbred:
