Our biggest failing in this match was taking our foot off their throat when they were down to MJ and Haddin in the first innings. Had we kept up the pressure then, the deficit would only have been a few runs, even with our own shambolic performance.

Oh dear, that was worse than I feared. The BBC pundits are giving us (and trott) a real going over. Surely one going over a day is enough?

Ask – is it just a fact that generally we play badly in Aus?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/theashes/10427496/The-Ashes-2013-14-England-must-take-into-account-Australias-different-Test-grounds-if-they-are-to-triumph.html

Plus our world status is flattering especially give the lack of current batting form. The last Ashes score flattered us on paper despite Aus being a poor side. There were signs that we had overcome the mental fragility, but the last 48 hours or so have been an unpleasant wake up. (But (this is not a troll or a bait) IMO it doesn’t help that we have become a side that is difficult to like. That was part of the summer’s legacy again IMO).

Australia have won a test (highly probable) something they haven’t done for a long time, anyone would think they had won the ashes. There’s still a lot of cricket to be played.

It helped Stuart Broad that he wasn’t liked. Isn’t it true that most of the people who seem to dislike the team are Australians?

It’s always more difficult to play away from home.

England’s test ranking is based on their recent results, which are very good.

No doubt that we’ve played badly for a couple of days, but perspective must be kept.

Part of my bias against the current England side ( 😉 ) is the fact that Trott is the spitting image of another bokka I worked with and against over many years. He was a @@@@ with a capital C who furthered his career by screwing first class franchises and many friends in the process. He got his comeuppance in the end, but when I see a quickie giving it to poor old Trottie, I see this other guy there and it becomes slightly more palatable indeed pleasurable to watch!!

Lok at Trott last series [ in aus] and look at Trott now – its amazing how he has gone fromn the Don to the dunce he needs to be dropped. I bet he is not even close tpo the bowlers batting average oiver the last 10 tests – he needs to sort his issues out and very quickly

huge huge MASSIVE in fact psychological edge to the Aussies

i feel for the bowlers who were ok – well two of them were and one of those superb- but the batters have let them down badly again – who knew the 136-6 bit was such a turning point tbh

Credit to them though but england bat like my gran with rhubarb etc

There are if you’re an Aussie 😉

Fair play to Australia, they have really let us have both barrels. However, find warners comments about Trott a bit odd and disrespectful, particularly from a bloke who does not average 40 and half the time also does his his best to get himself out.

Before the last series had even started, Warner punched one of the England team on a night out. I’d say his attitude is improving. Still a **** mind.

Yes, in ‘our’ Walkabout here in brum.

I normally grimace when a batsman from either side gets a fast ball on the helmet, but in Warner’s case, I’d happily watch broad repeat harmy’s ball to ponting in 2005, and get told to put that in his mouth.

yes all those criticising using the word “bogan” would indeed be using moderate and temperate language were the situations reversed.
IMHO your cut from the same cloth you were just born in different countries.
Given how well they have played and how poor Trott was a bit of gloating is inevitable…did you hear what Boycs said about Trott?

Whilst I don’t share MrSmith’s view that the entire populace of Australia are bogans, two in particular are:

    1) Warner,

    2) The editor of this pathetic rag:

God it’s unbelievably terrible… Hats off to the Aussies. Straight to bed with no story England, go on, off you go I’ve seen enough 😥

Tunred it off with cook and KP looking ok (@ 1am) and wake up to carnage for the 3rd day in a row. 🙁 not sure I can be bothered with the restart, back to sleep for another hour and see if it was just a bad dream.

No dream – this is a real thrashing!

I still think England will win the series though.

    Well played Aussies

Total shit England, time to start fighting

Did anyone hear what Clarke said to Anderson?

    tiggs121

Clarke told Anderson to “get ready for a broken helmet”

    Banter!

A couple of our batters showed more promising signs – Cook, Bell, Root (and KP, until his trademark “I wonder which daft way I can find to get out today” moment).

All is not lost, but there is lots to improve on. The new drop-in pitch here in Adelaide seems to be made out of memory foam, so that may well nullify MJ’s pace. It does, however, also nullify Broad’s. If Harrison stays fit, he’s the real danger for us though…

Was good to see Cook get the half century.

All very much as expected but fair play to the aussies. They certainly got stuck in and they certainly have an advantage now that few, outside of there, could see.

England need to do some serious recovery now and it is mainly with the bat

A few of them really need to step up Trott and Root in particular

Oh well we always do shit in the first test. Still worrying signs though.

Broken arm not broken helmet I believe.

    I like this thread.

It enables me to get an idea of how the ashes is going, without actually having to watch it.

    Appreciated, if only slightly.

Wasn’t it Clarke who was crying to his mummy in the last series about Jimmy’s nasty sledging?

    theotherjonv

I don’t see this as being that calamitous. Losing a close game or being mullered, is still only 0-1, but the impact of the manner, and also the Warner comments, the sledging, the England team can use to galvanise themselves for what promises to be a testing next few weeks. What goes around comes around though, and Bailey, Clarke et al had better be ready for a bit back too.

In fairness, a scrap of paper with ‘ very badly indeed ‘ would also serve the same purpose.

I agree. The Aussies need to be mindful that they’ve won a game not a series. The kind of comments Warner was making about Trott are just disrespectful between professional sportsmen.

Who gives a toss what Warner says in a press conference? Trott is a big boy now, he knows what his issues may be. He will know how to address them. Whether he can actually do it is what matters, but no professional sportsman should be affected what someone else says.

    zokes

Least of all by a bogan T20 specialist with a test batting average not much better than half his own

I think aus will also be seriously pissed off that they are set to play on an Adelaide featherbed next, aggers made a good point about Johnson. Perhaps a brave decision would be to say to him, sit this one out, put your feet up for a few days, then spend the last few days before the WACA eating a lot of red meat and punching yourself in the face.

I doubt they’ll do this, but it is worth a thought…….

Still, it has made the series interesting to say the least.
