So there I am, greasing my BB in the same fashion as I always do when I notice, upon wiping the excess grease away, that the grease has pushed out a rubber diaphragm type thing from the inners of the BB.

Try as I might, I can’t get this back in and seated properly. Now I’m no expert, but I’m guessing that the big wigs at CK put that rubber thingy there for a reason. Any idea what its for, and I suppose more importantly, how I get it back in.

Or do I just run it without and see what happens (bit of an expensive experiment though!)

It’s the seal to stop grease coming out and crap getting in! Take out the metal Snap Ring (big washer like thing with a split in it) that secures the seal in place refit the seal (rubber bit) replace snap ring. Easy job done.

Sounds like its pushed the rubber seal out,As above remove the spring clip, and replace the rubber seal carefully and refit the clip,Its a bit fiddly.
