Could someone post a nice pic of a beautiful polished alloyP-51 Mustang for me? Can’t seem to do it from my phone :-/ Absolutely GORGEOUS airplane with (essentially) a throbbing British heart. Kind of like a Shelby Cobra, in reverse…

Lancs (rightly I suppose) get all the limelight for bomber command but in the early stages of the campaign, there weren’t enough of them. Quite a few pilots actually preferred the Stirlings…

And just to show that MR A.V. Roe didn’t get everything right, I give you

The disastrous Avro Manchester. Was operational briefly. Everything that was wrong with it, was mostly fixed in its successor. Which was of course the Lanc.

And if I can be a bit cheeky, another Hurricane but a Mark V, little known variant that was redesigned to carry bombs/rockets and upgraded guns to Canons so it could take on a ground attack role.

Affectionately known as the ‘can opener’ because it was so effective against tanks. Replaced late in the war by the already posted and rather terrifying Typhoon!

As much as I like prop planes, you lot need to get with the times and embrace the future:

    I still think it’s a lovely looking plane: Me-262
