I’m still looking for a van having settled on Vivaro / Trafic / Primastar and initially was looking for a Van with Air Con due to having the Dogs in during the summer.

Looked a few yesterday and one salesman said that the Air Con would be useless in the back and would just be effective in the cab, obviously this is with no bulkhead and that a roof extractor would be better.

Not having Air Con will open up viewing of more vans so what I’m asking is has anyone got a Van without bulkhead ( or crew cab ) with Air Con and if so, does it reach effectively into the load area ?

    Thanks

I have T5 Kombi with aircon. There are vents in the B pillars to feed the air to the rear passengers

If I was carrying dogs , I would probably go with the same thing the police or rspca have in their vehicles though.
    I.e roof mount

T5 caravelle here and the air con chils the whole cabin nicely. I can’t imagine the commercial variants use less powerful compressors

My old man has stuck an extractor in his C8 for exactly this reason, the air con couldn’t deal with the dogs (moreso when wet) despite being routed to the passenger area.

I transport my dogs for work, used to use an estate car with seats folded and two big solid cages, windows down, at work I could mostly leave all windows and doors open and I was rarely more than a few yards away from them. Only real problem was sitting in slow moving queues on motorway, and the spaniel dust and hair blowing about.
Now use an ex police dog van that I had a big bit in designing the cages. Got a forced air scoop on the roof feeding direct into the cages and void above it. The cages are insulated from the sides, and stay nice and cool, a white van helps massively too. The rearmost side windows have been removed and have twin electric fans in each side feeding directly into the cages. The air con can also be switched into the rear, got temp sensors in the cages too.[working out how to add gsm pager to that] And a ventlock to leave rear door ajar. Emergency contact stickers all over the place.
Usual caveats apply, just don’t leave dogs locked in car, when its warm. I’m never far from them at work but still take a massive amount of care to ensure their welfare.

I think they have additional compressors in the rear quarters to cover the rear occupants

    Cheers for the replies.

Looks like ideal situation Is Air Con plus roof vents so I will look into that if not it’s going to be a van without Air Con but with the roof vents.

The roof vents are incredibly easy to fit, literally one cut with a hole saw, couple of holes, clean it up and put it together with some sealant. (plus a bit of sealant for the newly exposed metal)

My parents have a lwb vivaro van with standard a/c and without bulkhead, its set up for carrying 4 dogs, ac chills the rear of the van ok, wouldn’t be without it when stuck in traffic on a hot day.
