I went to see Elbow live last month, and tbh he’s not much better at his own concerts…

Specious – agreed. Was skeptical, but gave him a chance and he’s been… absolutely fine, TBH. Much like Lauren in that regard IMO. If he becomes more regular it’ll be interesting to see how he develops in the role. Remember George Lamb? I ended up loathing him by the end of his tenure at 6 Music…

I used to hate Gimmy on R1 – but I think he suits 6music better, prefer him over the nepo-baby Ravenscroft who hopefully hasn’t got his dad’s taste in women or how to treat them.

Monday was a bit much for me I had to switch to R4 – I’ve realised that apart from a few tracks, that I can’t stand reggae.

Grimly has been ok, certainly better than I’d expect from a Radio 1 breakfast host but I do miss LaLa.  Hope she gets better and comes back soon.

Love GG and find him far from pretentious but each to their own.

One thing that’s always got me is “The Rebel Dread” has anyone else ever heard anyone else refer to them in in the same way? IE I’m Don Letts, also known as . . . . ” as if that means anything to anyone. Thankfully I can’t stand reggae so avoid the programme but can’t swerve the trailers.

^^ MAH’s mid morning music selection often seems like it was hand picked to suit the music taste of doley crusties who are just getting up

Agreed that Grimshaw is less irritating these days, but also don’t find him in any way entertaining.

Which coincidentally is what I tend to think of Lauren Laverne.

I like Grimmy, he’s a decent presenter and seems to be an actual fan of music, rather than just a presenter.

As an aside (and not a critcism) – was he always as camp, or has he become more so?

Grimmy has been fine IMO. Agree with the comments that MAH would not be missed.

Re Chris Hawkins – was just coming on here to say how much I’ve enjoyed hearing him in the afternoon slot while WFH.  It’s been a nice afternoon.

I’ve listened to a fair bit of Grimshaw and think he’s been good.  He’s a better fit for 6 than Scott Mills anyway 🙂  I suppose its always been a bit of a grown up Radio 1 , starting with Marc n Lard.  With Radio 2 being the other fork in the road, if you like Coldplay and Dua Lipa

Not a Hawkins fan here, but he is far better that CC at interviewing people imo.

I know this comment is a day old, but can’t resist a point of order. Chris Hawkins is the worst interviewer it’s humanly possible to be! He clearly just reads down a list of prepared and largely unrelated questions and can’t develop a conversation off any interesting topics that naturally occur.

It’s infuriating when a guest happens across an interesting fact you’d like to know more about and he’s already moved on to “what’s your favourite breakfast cereal?” Man’s an idiot.

Have you heard Steve Lamacq interviewing? Does my head in. He utters a big long sentence, mostly about him but containing 3 or 4 half questions leaving the interviewee in total confusion.

The Hawks interviewing style is so bad it makes me think he isn’t actually doing the interviews. It’s like they just dub his boring questions over the top. I just can’t believe anyone could be so bad at failing to interact with someone they are really talking to and allow a conversation to actually happen.

names in songs is a great feature idea but his incessant going on about it and self congratulating approach even ruins that.

Don Letts does seem to be flogging his “The Rebel Dread” to death.  I’ve never heard anyone quote their nickname so much.

I really like Chris Hawkins interviews, I think he often shows real insight and appreciation for the interviewee.  Only thing I find a little irritating is that they often sound re-dubbed after the fact, so it sounds a bit like one of those syndicated interviews you get on local radio (or used to get on Steve Wright).  If the sound’s crap leave it in, that’s life and it’ll sound more genuine.

I really don’t get the hate for the fella.

He came to notoriety in the late 70’s as the DJ that single handedly turned a whole generation of punks onto reggae. It was whilst as a d.j at the first punk club ‘The Roxy’ in 1977, that Don adopted the punk D.I.Y ethic and begun to make his first film ‘The Punk Rock Movie’. Shot on Super-8mm it is the only documentary on the U.K punk scene w/ Sex Pistols-The Clash and many others. This led to a period directing over 300 music videos for an eclectic mix of diverse artists ranging from Public Image to Bob Marley. He then moved into documentary work covering the likes of Gil Scot-Heron, The Jam, Sun Ra, George Clinton and most recently Paul McCartney. Dancehall Queen (co-directedby Rick Elgood) shot in location in Jamaica 1997 was his first feature film.
