I thinks the wheels on my Orange Alpine Five are getting creaky and I can feel some flex in fast cornering. They’re currently Stans Flow on Hope Pro Evo 2 hubs, though the spokes do look fairly spindly.
I do mostly trail centres but want to try some Enduro races soon. I’m 6’7″ and about 100kg so they’ve got to be strong and not massive money.
What does anyone recomend? Anyone running Hope Tech Enduro 29’s?

DT Swiss and WTB are kicking arse for rims just now tbh. But Flow Exes are alright rims too- bit soft but otherwise decent. And it’s not likely Orange specced superlight spokes. So I reckon unless there’s some major issue with the rims, rebuilding what you have possibly makes the most sense, get them working as well as they can and quite likely there’s no need for an upgrade. And much cheaper obviously!

It depends a bit on your current wheels- if they’re sellable as they are then obviously that helps. If not then maybe fixing them up makes sense regardless of whether you keep them. But if the rims are hammered then ditching them and building a WTB Frequency or DT EX471 or XM481 will make more sense…

Oh- last note on that, the ERD of the DTs is basically the same for all of these I believe, so if the spokes are alright there’s a decent chance you could just change the rim alone.

If you’re after stiff wheels my Crossmax XL are the stiffest 29er wheels I’ve had. There were lots in the sales recently, might still be a few available.
