Finger tight and then how much more? Swinging off the allan key? Any clues as to how much is enough here?

    cheers 🙂

It’s less than a lot, but more than not much.

I would say with a normal length Allen key, just tIghten then nip it up.
Use lock tight as well maybe?
40 nm is a lot of force on a long bar, if that helps.
Where are you? You can have a go on a cheap torque wrench if you are worried.
    What are you tightening.

If your spanner is 6″ long, pick up something which weighs 30lbs. You want to replicate that weight in your hand when tightening the spanner.

Or a 1 foot spanner would be 15 lbs

Cut a bit of wood to 2′ in length. Make a seesaw out of it with 15lb on the end (a large cat will do). Push down until the cat is off the ground.

Bit more than getting a stuck ketchup bottle open but not quite red faced tight (and certainly not wee coming out tight).
About the same force as throttling a small mammal/child.

He said mammal, not camel!! See it’s too tight now!

Tighten it until it strips then back it off one.

I normally just tighten until I round the bolt-it’s not gonna move then….just nip it down to the lbs to get them to remove it (obviously I pay them in Lidl biscuits rather than money)

    Cheers

    Just use superglue instead.
