Nooooooooooo!

[img] [/img]

The strap's cracked 😐

After only two years, as well.
The previous one lasted ages (left in a climbing hut), as did the one
before that (lent to a friend).

I've got a G-Shock, which I really like, but this told the time just as well and didn't look as daft.

Before I blow another £8.00, is there anything else I should consider?

Do I push the boat out and go for a W-59 with it's 50 metre water resistance?
[img] [/img]

Do I need the extra luminescence of a W-86?

Am I man enough for an A168, or is it just too much watch?

How about a DBC32? - A bit too much?

Help me STW horologists, I'm stuck.....

Silver A168. All-time-classic-of-all-time-mate.

It says "Electro Luninescense" on it, it's proper 80's style, and it's got to be silver like the cool bling kids back in school. What more do you want from a watch?! Out of that lot, what would Kraftwerk wear eh? These are the only deciding factors..

Danny, I love the gold A168.
But is the watch making promises the wearer can't keep?

A man would have to be careful with a watch like that........

Any watch that has the words 'Tough Solar' emblazoned across it has to be worth considering...

True.

It's multi band as well.
I'm only used to the 40 UK FM legal channels.

Or let me tell you the one that is good for you ... 😆

1. W-59 (stay with this one but use Nato/Zulu strap so it will last)

(A-168 - this is supposed to be cool but too many "cool" hip people are wearing it rendering it shite)

2. W-96H (easy to read and 10 year battery life)

3. Casio G-Shock GW-M5610 - tough solar, radio Controlled and world time ... yes this is what I have.

So it's either 1 or 3 ...

You can get tough solar g shocks for c£55 new or half that 2nd hand and they will last years. I've a gw6900 and it's a bargain £58 or so on amazon right now. The quartzs are cheaper again, worth spending a few quid etc for a keeper for a few years 🙂 Or this....

I sport a W-86, its my Go To watch for the minimalist, non Strava / smartphone activities. Its not perfect though, the chronomater only records a single hour, so for anything over one hour you have to remember when you started, kind of defeating the object of a stopwatch. The light is good though.

I did buy a second hand G Shock a few years ago, it was cheap and it was bought to scratch that itch I've had for many years. Unsurprisingly I never wear it as its too big. My wrists are too puny to carry it off and it catches on all my clothing. There's no need for a watch that over-built.

If it was my money I'd go for an illuninator version of the W-59

It's an affectionate parody of the posh watch threads, but serious too:

I really love my F-91W's - they're a practical, classic design that costs less than a tenner.
They work perfectly and are used by all kinds of people all over the world, including lots of people who could afford something much more expensive.

Couple of articles:
BBC.
Guardian.

I bought a nice G-Shock, to scratch an itch, as Pieface put it.
I really like it & I might get another one day, but the cheaper Casios are almost as good and so much cheaper.

They're just nice things to own, too. 🙂

Nice to see the love for them on here. 😀

I'm leaning toward the W86 at the mo, but the DBC32 databank for £25.00 is very tempting:

No, I get it RS, I don't really like watches much, but I love a good old simple casio. Speshly with the Electro Luminescence 😉 I don't get the databank, K.I.S.S

I went for the W-86. 🙂

And just to make it even more retro, I queued up, in Argos, and paid in cash (£15.00!)

It's great. 😀
Slightly thicker than the F-91W, and the display isn't quite as good (slightly darker background) but the proper backlight makes up for it.

I picked up a Casio Databank watch after a gig at Bristol Uni once. The strap had snapped and I saw it and just grabbed it, there was no-one on security so I took it home. When I cleaned it up and looked at it I realised it had a bunch of phone numbers on, including 'Home', so I phoned it, and explained to the lady who answered that I'd found a watch at a gig with her number on, and was it her son or daughters. Turns out it was her student son's, who was thrilled to bits to get it back when I returned it.
Got a few extra karma points for my good deed. 😀
