Ok, I have a patriot 66 that I want to upgrade. I already have a pair of Marzocchi 55 rc3s that I was going to put on it but would anyone like to recommend a new shock for it? The dimensions are 215mmm i2i x 63mm stroke or 8.5″ x 2.5″. Or 200 x 57 According to this thread http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/patriot-66-shock-info
I do not mind if it is coil or air but do not want to spend too much money.

I was looking at locos dueler shocks http://locotuning.co.uk/dsp-dueler.html for £275. I stopped using the frame and got a MX Prophet (Now a bit sick of the bolt through back end on the prophet) as the Pratriot was a slow on the flat (No problem going up or down) so it would be nice to drop a bit of weight. I can also remember the damping/rebound was not that controlled. It currently has a Manitou Swinger Coil 3 way on it.

Another thing is what are the differences between this bike and say an Orange Alpine? Is it weight/angles or in the real world is there not much difference and it would be better with a new shock.

There also seems to be some decent offers here to: http://www.mojo.co.uk/clearance.html

I’ve a Diverse dueler on my 66, and it rocks!

Is it bobby, how much does it weigh and do you get the bushing hardwear when you buy it?

my reckoning is that a patriot will be ace with a 190×50 rp23 fitted on the standard shock shuttle to lower, slacken, lighten and firm up should give 140mm which is enough for most UK duties. I’m going to try the shock out of my old sub 5 for a while and see what it runs like.

The 200×57 dhx air from mojo looks a good deal though…

I thought Orange used to produce a separate shock shuttle that could replace the original thereby keeping the standard geometry but shortening the travel.

This would have the effect of turning it into a beefed up 5 (sort of). Whether they are still available is another matter.

I just put a 2nd hand DHX 5 on mine and that suits me just fine.

Will have a word with mojo then. Do the DHX shocks need a specific tune like the RP shocks?

Ran a heavily modified DHX coil on mine a few years ago when I had them.

The Dueler will work nicely on the 66 with a bit of tuning that I can do at time of purchase.

Any further queries don’t hesitate to drop me a mail. 😀

but fitting the shorter shock with the standard shuttle ought to enhance the geometry 🙂

The DHX 5.0 has a lot of adjustability – i’d try it out first before deciding it need a specific tune. I don’t think they’re shock tuners favourite anyhow.

Sent a mail loco. When are the 200X57 shocks in stock?

It’s not bobby at all, just really really active! I don’t really know about the weight and can’t remember if It came with the hardware or not, sorry.

Did some research and it looks like the old patriot is between the Five and the Alpine. I think the patriot 66 bare frame is about 2.65kg compared to the Five of 2.3kg? So not that much weight difference. Fancy putting the 200×57 shock on it.
