Hi, looking at upgradeing my old manitou forks to something a bit better. Benn offered some 140mm Fox but im wondering is this going to be overkill on a Specialized Rockhopper mainly used for XC with light jumping. Iv never had any forks with that much travel so is 140mm mostly for jumping or does anyone else use them for general xc no problem??
Thanks
It sounds like they might unbalance the bike a bit for you - heavier, a bit softer when pedalling, more travel than you need.
You should check the frame specs, it's not as though the 140's will lead to instant death but I suspect 140 is outside the design tolerance.
EDIT: I just looked at the top Expert model only has 100mm of travel, so even 120m look outside the design range for the frame.
140 is fine for normal XC provided the frame geometry can handle it/was designed for it. Probably 100-120 is seen as typical though. You could always get the forks and then buy another frame (new or used steel modern HT) and transfer all the other bits ๐
buy them and if you're not happy stick a travel spacer in there to drop them back down to 120mm or 130mm

Good advice, thanks all
