I have a predicament. I don’t like wearing cycling helmets but have done for the past 10 odd years I suppose. Not once have I ever landed on my helmet. Once on my nose perhaps but the helmet didn’t help then. I’m beginning to wonder whether they are contributing to my balding head. I look a little like a monk now.

I’m tempted to not wear a helmet anymore. They’re not law anyway. The only thing is they now hide my balding nogging.

Anyone here reckon their helmets are expediting baldness on their bonce?

I always weara helmet and i have a full head of hair

Why do you think it is only wearing it out in one spot

As polite as I can be you are clutching at straws here but it is a novel twist to the usual helmet debate we get on here

Sounds like a catch 22. You don’t want to wear a helmet as it is making you bald, but you need the helmet to hide the baldness.

It’s times like these, I wonder, what would Jesus do?

You’re going bald, there is no obscure reason why. Male genetics.

Shave your head, wear your helmet, suck it up.

Good point Jota180….not sure he did and he was indeed a baldy. I shall continue to follow Jesus’ example and wear a helmet. Thanks all consultation over.

I’m fairly confident my balding head is more to do with genetics than my habitual helmet wearing…

I used to wear an MX helmets for hours and hours at a time* and i’m a bald as a bald thing.
Some other people wore MX helmets for hours and hours at a time* and still have hair.

I stopped wearing my tinfoil hat because the reflected heat from my head was cooking my hair follicles.
I didn’t fancy my head looking like a basted chicken.

I hardly ever wear a helmet and i’ve got a thick head of hair. Could well be the conclusive proof you are after!

Definitely time to shave it, or opt for a comb over and look like a bellend.

Somebody just showed this helmets/baldness warning to Josh….

I’m thinning up top, all the blokes on all sides of my family are/did. I’ve accepted this from the age of 17.

The two times I’ve hit the deck the hardest on my bike, my head has hit the ground as well, the last time I badly grazed my cheek, so I hate to think what the damage might have been if my lid hadn’t taken the brunt of the impact.

It ain’t your helmets fault, it’s your maternal grandfathers.

    Monk it up!

a special prize to JCL for being first to note it’s not your dad’s fault as this particular gene goes down the maternal line.

I spent years knowing I wouldn’t lose my hair as my paternal grandfather still had most of his into his 80s (I never met the maternal grandfather). About 10 years ago I discovered the facts and went to find a photo of my mum’s dad who I now realized was a baldy. I think my hairline started to go the next morning 😥
