Event: Yorkshire True Grit – Female Riders Wanted!

Yorkshire True Grit is seeking female gravel grinders. Total entries for this year have surpassed last year – but there is a shortage of female riders taking part, with only four women entered in The Outlaw; the 60 mile option of the North Yorkshire based event.
Organiser, Andrew Wright, of Bikewright.com said: “It has been fantastic to see the popularity of the event grow, but I’m conscious that entries from female riders are low. We want to encourage women to take part. Gravel biking is really growing in popularity in the UK, but as with most cycling disciplines it has been adopted first by men. We’ve noticed the same thing with Enduro and Downhill. Gravel biking is more accessible as it’s non technical, but still challenging, and really doesn’t require any special equipment. Last year we had a mix of people on Gravel/Adventure Bikes, Cyclocross and Mountain Bikes”.

This year’s Yorkshire True Grit’s Event HQ is the High Paradise Farm at Boltby, right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and a stone’s throw from one of the most famous drover’s roads in Yorkshire, which make it a fantastic location for the 2017 event. The event runs over two days – The Outlaw and The Drive (c60 and c40 miles respectively) will take place on Saturday 24th June and The Stampede (c20 miles) on Sunday 25th June.
Yorkshire True Grit whilst offering a real challenge to all riders, also aims to be a friendly and welcoming event. On The Outlaw and The Drive there’s a feed & mechanic station to assist with problems encountered out on the trail, plus maps are provided that include escape routes to all entrants. There’s also a sweeper out on the course.
At the Event HQ there will be a mechanic plus a small exhibitor village featuring Event sponsors Salsa Cycles, Fenwick’s Bike Cleaner, Sanderson Cycles, Bikewright and the Friday Night Pasta Party sponsor, Mediterranean Luxury Foods.
On Saturday night the High Paradise Farm team will be running the bar (and handing out the finishers’ drink – courtesy of Wainwrights Golden Beer) and the outdoor pizza oven will be fired up ready for riders’ orders.

Those entering The Outlaw or The Drive will be able to enter The Stampede for just £5 – a great way of unwinding the legs after Saturday’s endurance test. “We’d love for folk to camp on the Saturday night and share their tales from the ride over a beer.” Said Andy. “If people want to meet up in advance of the event, then we have a free social ride on Sunday 28th May – more details on our Facebook page”.
