me sweating away, scratching my balls…..?!

Let’s not huh? There’s enough of that on the Internet as it is!

That was tough – first hare home in 55.00………but 2 hounds went past me (at warp speed ☺)!

    Well done.

I’m not sure there were any more hounds. I know mooman and Phil made it in, they must have been shifting some to make sub 50!

Deffo more hounds, me and Dr P came in at 52 something, moon man and Phil way up the road plus two others in front of me, Garry Lager and one other.

If we do that again we need more categories!

I tried to psyche them out by saying they were looking ropey when they flew past me at 6w/kg on the climb but I’m not sure it had much effect to be honest…

Good way of picking the team for Thursday’s TTT though – mooman, welcome aboard!

Connection problems for me again meant that I lost the hounds from the off so ended up riding solo. Got back in the group on the climb but then lost connection again and lost the draft effect. Was so annoyed that my heart really wasn’t in it after that.

    Well done all.

How did the limited group work by the way? I saw a couple of folk on the road but not sure if they could see me?

Was so annoyed that my heart really wasn’t in it after that.

It’s surprising me how social the whole thing actually seems. Was very different doing that solo than as part of a group. Actually quite excited when I saw my first little blob of a hare on the map.

Thks for organising Ivan, format worked great for a first go 👍

Wd to Mooman and Phil for getting it done, and the hares for setting a hard pace. Had a good ride with J_R, thks for towing me up that second hill.

No worries, glad everyone seemed to enjoy it!

Hares group worked OK I thought, bit of regrouping over the top of the first climb then a fast run in to the second climb as a pack before the faster riders went for it and it all blew apart.

I suspect the hounds was similar?

Two climbs helped us chasers – the second one being a longer effort really made it possible to catch the Hares because they were already splintered by then, and not working as a group.

I did read IvanDobski message as I closed on the climb saying something like “they look like they gonna blow soon” … I assumed you were referring to the front group ahead; It spurred me on to suffer a bit longer to catch them before top.

We hounds were a bit of a mess in beginning with Phil and myself not paying attention and riding off with hares as we warmed up – we stopped 500m up road till the other Hounds started and caught us up, but splintered on the first climb, then Phil and I rode to the 2nd climb together.

    Good work out.
And Yes I should be able to make the TTT Thursday.

That was a great ride tonight. Really enjoyed it. Finished in 57 mins. Managed to keep up with Dr P and Copping for about 3 miles so was happy with that! Really enjoy the group rides good to do something different each week.

Gutted as I could have made this after all as the wife’s headed out on the MTB so I was home with the kids. Ended up just doing a quick work out.

Sounds like a great first event. I joined about a minute late and missed it so stuck around for the Tour for All race on Tempus. Not as much fun by the sounds of it.

One thing this Zwifting has taught me is that there are actually some people on STW that ride, and they’re bloody quick too.  Before the lockdown I’ve never properly rode regularly enough to improve but it’s quite addictive.  Even at the end I was pushing to catch one of multiple fellow hares just before the finish.

Finished in about an hour, knocked at least 5 mins off my previous time despite losing the hares between the 2 climbs (see previous 38t chainring comment which I think is causing me problems) and riding solo for the rear of the course, can’t believe how much the draft helps.

@DrP – I can see you but didn’t think you were actually serious about sitting there sweating and scratching your balls!

    @dangeourbrain
    – the private group thing worked perfectly other than we could see the chat from the “others” even though we couldn’t see them or their names in the list etc.

There are definitely some quick riders on here, it’s only when you’re pretty much on your limit and they go past like you’re standing still that you realise how slow you are!

    Ha!!!

I’m an IT luddite, so have just set up the ‘screen’ with basic widgets/sources…
Webcam and ‘zwift window’ is all I’ve put on there, but will prob remove webcam if it’s too alluring….

Yeh the private meet up worked well. Opens up any world for the group meets so gives us a huge choice.

    Cheers for organising that Ivan.

worked perfectly other than we could see the chat from the “others” even though we couldn’t see them or their names in the list etc.

Seems an odd omission! You were visible out in the “real” world to the rest of us which again seemed a little peculiar but good that at least it keeps the list clear, that alone is a huge boon in a group ride.

That was a great even Ivan, thanks so much for organising. So what was the final result in terms of which Hounds got the before the hares, and which hare was first?

If we do that again we need more categories!

Yes, I agree: for instance there’s the superfast greyhounds and there’s the regular hounds.

Had a good ride with J_R, thks for towing me up that second hill.

    – it’s the least I could do considering you towed me round the rest of the course Garry. 340W average is awesome; it was all I could do to hold onto your wheel with my paltry 260W.

I don’t know how well the hares worked together, but the hounds were split from the beginning; partly because we didn’t start completely together so were never in a single bunch, but mainly because the fastest were so fast they had no need to be in a bunch with the rest.

But it was good fun seeing the hares appearing on the map and reeling them in, or rather holding onto Garry’s wheel as he reeled them in.

Gutted I had trouble getting logged on tonight I got in the meet-up about a couple of seconds late. Had to go deep to get back to the group on the 1st climb but as you rolled over the top I lost touch and that was that. Better luck next time hopefully as it worked really well I thought cheers for sorting Ivan

Mooman & Phil56 were first home, both hounds but not sure of the gap between them and then peesbee was first hare and 3rd on the road I think. Again, not totally sure of the gap but about a minute to the hounds I think?

^^^^provisional results because I might be talking bollocks due to being utterly knackered and not thinking to keep an eye on the front of the race when it mattered.

Blimey! That was a hard ride and I got caught only couple of mins up the second climb…

Once all the hounds had passed me, it was really hard to stay motivated as there was no one to catch and no one else on the course to tussle with.
I kept digging all the way round and caught another Hare (O) before the top of the second hill.

Great ride, but even with a 10min headstart I’d have been caught me the end.

If we do it again, could we do a staggered hare start?! :o) 8 mins should do it…

I reckon 4 cats working on 15% / 10% / 5% gaps based on the zwift insider course time estimate wouldn’t be far off?

So if we’d done that tonight the first group would have had 7.5mins, the second group 5 mins, the third 2.5mins.

Realistically that wouldn’t make too much difference to the overall but might give people more to race for in terms of arriving at the finish in more of a bunch.

On a hilly course maybe extend the gap a bit particularly for the slower 2 groups?

Last I seen Phil was about 1:15 behind me as I came in to finish – I think Peesbee was about 10seconds behind Phil.

Sounds like you had great fun, if you ever do one of these on the weekend, count me in.

Sounds like a slightly longer head start needed next time to make it a final dash to the line for both groups.

Yeah that was good, managed to increase my power curve in the 5 to 35 minute range by a few Watts.
My legs and focus had gone by the time you caught me @stumpy01 !

Yeah, it was pretty hard to stay committed once all the hounds had caught & it was just a case of getting to the end! I kept pushing because at one point i seemed to be slowly gaining on the next two hares up the road, but I think was just my imagination as the gap to them remained quite consistent.

If anyone fancies this Saturday morning about 1030hrs whilst weeksy’s still on his sabbatical give a shout and I’ll organise one using my new, totally not back of a fag packet, system…

Totally not offended if people want to do something different though.

I enjoyed that today. Tough going at times, and I sat up for a bit after Mooman shot past, but I should have kept going to stay with the draft. I found it hard to stay motivated to push on solo, until Razorrazoo caught up and I had a brief idea to sprint, but my legs had other ideas.

The time coming down round the volcano was what was keeping me going.  I was waiting for the sprint, saw the W/kg go up then drop off and was pretty relieved.

Not sure who else was behind on the road by then as names dropped off and there were a few more behind that dropped and were caught before me.

Thanks for organising that Ivan, now I know what time trialing might feel like. God it was hard work but enjoyable all the same. I crossed the line with T Rolo, Zilog and C Turner at about 54 mins I think. Definitely encourages you to keeep going when you’re working together. FTP went up from 220 to 230. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing though!
