Having seen the price increase – I can’t really stomach that what are the alternatives out there?

    Trainer Road – more expensive

    Rouvy

    Xert (cheaper)

    Fulgaz

    Wahoo Systm

Those are the ones I can think of. If you like the racing then none of them are going to touch Zwift tbh. If you’re more into the structured training then Trainer Road is brilliant – but it already costs more than Zwift.

I think some of the others are good on the riding around with more realistic backgrounds etc – but I’ve only used trainer road and Zwift personally.

I will probably just try controlling the turbo from my garmin edge, while watching something on TV. I find I actually respond best to just keeping around zone 2 sessions on the turbo, so I am not bothered about structured training plans, I just want to train regularly and consistently through winter, hard session need more recovery.

£18 a month is a big jump and makes it a simple decision for me.

I’ll take a look at what the Wattbike hub delivers.

Indievelo is currently free. It looks very much like Zwift, but with better physics. They’re developing the racing aspect of it too, with much better support for community organisers, team kit and so on. I guess they’ll eventually get out of Beta and start charging but might be worth a look in the meantime.

I’m currently using Tacx. You really need a Tacx trainer (though it’s possible to “hack” it) but it’s a very, very different thing to Zwift.

I’ve tried Indievelo and it was ok but didn’t previously offer me anything over Zwift. The price increase will probably be enough to make me input my custom workouts on there now.

Cool thanks, plenty there to try.

BKool’s ok. But it’s not Zwift in terms of participants.

I got the email too! Just Cx’d my subs for the summer and will take a look at options again come the autumn

I jumped from Zwift to Rouvy, partly as it is much cheaper, partly they do a x2 good deal for a second user and partly I found riding inside a real world video with super imposed me / training better than the full video game style in Zwift but we’re all different.

It has certainly made me want to ride in some different places after seeing the videos though 😉

I use Bkool loads of real courses and videos to ride to and training programs etc

When I tried rouvy, I found the cartoonish avatars against a filmed backdrop really off-putting, they always seemed to be sized a bit wrong, didn’t look like they were on the road and didn’t pedal at the same cadence as I was.

    This, probably.

Massive own goal for an indoor training app to hike their prices in May as the weather / daylight improves and many will already be swithering whether to bother keeping subs going over the summer anyway. This could sway more users to pause accounts and bite Zwift on the arse. I do use it all year but will switch to annual subs from next month as that takes the monthly equivalent from £13 to £15, rather than £18.

Trainer Day is a structured training tool that has a few free workouts that you can mix and match, and a reasonably priced subscription option.  It’s also pretty quick to get started

I came here to say 2 things… and “theartist…..” got there first with one of them!

Other option, depending on your view of the background to it, is mywhoosh.  Free, and seems OK in my very limited experience (probably about 10-15 uses per winter, when the weather is too rank even for running)

I moved over to Rouvy at Christmas and much prefer riding using videos of real roads and places. I find it a lot easier mentally to keep going when viewing the ‘real’ world than the cartoon nature of zwift. Also far more routes to follow whenever you want.

MyWhoosh looks to expanded the range of gadgets it will work on, used to be limited to my Poco F3, now runs on my old Mi A2.

I now see why the question was asked, while I was out Zwift have announced monthly sub increase from 12.99 to 17.99, extracting the urine much? 😮

I use wahoo. when my sub was up at the end of January I looked at others but they where either too expensive or didn’t offer me anything different. I don’t care about the social aspect of it, I use it purely to get fitter. The 4DP test gives you 4 different data points to train at and the half monty test is pretty easy to do.

Appreciate your input, but I hate riding on the road as it stresses me out so turbo for fitness and MTB for fun.

MyWhoosh is currently free,  works well for training.  Not tried the racing.  Hopefully will remain free for a while longer.  Only downside is it requires a fairly high end device to run on

Glad to see someone else has found Trainer Day. An alternative to Trainer Road at a fraction of the price rather than Zwift but I suspect there are plenty of people who started off indoor training in the era of gamified virtual reality and don’t appreciate there is another way and it can be ok.

No good for visuals, but Xert is good for training and only about £8 a month.

Learning curve is very steep but the help is very good and so is the forum.

They’ve recently done a big update with an AI plan generator.

I currently run it in tandem with Zwift. Need to decide what to do going forwards.
