I’m going through the same thought process with my 27.5 Jeffsy. I find the Deluxe ok but the Bos Vip’r on my old Bandit was noticeably better in really rough stuff.
I’ve had a hankering for a coil shock for a while but the leverage curve on the Bandit didn’t suit. As above, the progressive leverage curve of the Jeffsy suits a coil so well it seems daft to consider upgrading to another air shock.
Main downsides are that CC hasn’t released metric sizes of the Coil [IL] yet (I assume they will), I can’t afford an ElevenSix from PUSH and I’m a bit nervous that a coil might deaden the ‘pop’ of the Jeffsy out of corners and off little kickers, which is one of the things I like best about it.
OP – my Deluxe has the 3 position compression lever and I leave it in open all the time, so I don’t think you’re missing much. Hardly any difference in pedal bob between open and trail but much better in the rocky stuff when left open
