I’ve emailed YT support but wondered if someone here might have a quicker answer for me. The upper headset bearing in my 2020 carbon Jeffsy has gone crunchy so I need a replacement. Can anyone point me towards the part I need?

It seems like the bearing is bonded to the race, is this actually the case? I couldn’t get it out easily and didn’t want to risk damaging it before I’ve sourced a replacement. If it is bonded then I guess any ZS44 headset upper would do the job?

I had the same problem with my Jeffsy, bearings were crunchy, ordered replacements but couldn’t get the originals out of the cup. After a bit of persuasion the bearings exploded with the races still firmly stuck in the cup. Ended up knocking the cups out and replacing the job lot with a hope headset.

Good to know it’s not just me, I’ll see what YT have to say but I expect I have this in my future too.

Acros headsets do have the bearings bonded into the cups afaik, whole thing needs to be replaced

The bearings are a press fit in the cups.

I knock out the inner race with a punch, then remove the outer race with a blind puller and slide hammer, new bearings are pressed in with a bearing press.

Most other headset manufacturers do not use press fit bearings in headset cups, so swapping out the cups would make future servicing much easier.

I emailed Acros first thing and got basically the same response – the bearings are bonded and they’re not covered by warranty (which is fair enough, I’m the one that’s been riding it in the slop and hosing it down after).

I’ve ordered one of the Hope pick n mix uppers only to replace it and I supposed I’ll do the same with the lower if and when the bearing dies.
