Had a bit of a nostalgia moment at the weekend, first night at the Arches in what must be 20 years, with  the Glasgow duo, Slam, at the wheels. Absolutely amazing night and many trips down memory lane.  The age demographic was 40’s and 50’s (and beyond) with absolutely banging techno, music from 1992 when slam started their night at the Arches until it ended in 2015. All very bizarre, everybody even managed a late night!

Got talking to some friends about important (to them) music from their younger years, artwork that provoked thought or just amazing albums. So wanted to open the discussion, what’s your favourite dance/electronic album and which album had the best artwork..

Best album and best artwork. No coincidence that the same people did both

    Leftfield, Leftism.

And pretty much any Orb .

David Holmes’ stuff was always making an effort on the artwork but I’d plump for Screamadelica. Looks like a Corona virus 30 years ahead of time.

@hot_fiat – good call! I bloody love all their artwork. I’ve got this big A0 print of KY, signed by them both.

@hot_fiat – came here to post that again.

In all honesty other than that and Snivilisation I can’t think of any electronic album covers I particularly like.

+1 for the Lemon Jelly cover with the fields as my fave, even though I only have it on CD (which still gets played regularly)

But the Screamadelica cover may be the most iconic.

Slam are still banging it hard then OP? I remember seeing them BITD and it wasn’t quite what we were expecting when Positive Education was still an anthem everywhere.

There’s a German label called Life & Death – some of their earlier stuff was gorgeous black & white drawings. They’ve changed now, but I  love these. (sorry if not nostalgic enough for ya!)

Still have some nice coloured ones

Same here! Some of Fripp’s work on that is incredible, but it’s a once in a blue moon listen for me.

Seeing as we’ve already had Lemon Jelly, I’m going to go for some Jon Hopkins.

Never listened to the full Bomb the Bass album before, even though Don’t Make Me Wait was one of the tracks that got me into dance music.

    Awesome stuff 🙂
