knocked a chimney breast into a inglenook today. dirty work.
Trying to translate some PLC ladders written in technical German so the HMI shows fault messages in english for the machine operators. I've had some highly amusing babble fish translations so far. Later I've got to get the cherry picker out and figure out whats wrong with one of the gas heaters on the roof. I'm not usually bothered about heights, but this thing wobbles and sways about a foot in each direction when at full height 🙁
Might dunk my chain and cassette in the solvent bath later before I leave for home. Thinking of changing from squirt wax to wet lube. 😕
I was writing a script to spoof the inputs from web services from partners on our project so we can test our stuff without them. Now I've switched to trying to finish my PhD.
Currently on a conference call to the US. Duller than a week's exposure to Woman's Hour, if you can believe it
Sitting in the Hilton bar in Sofia [s]catching up on the day's emails while out setting up a technical support team here[/s] wasting my life away on STW 😀
I climbed a snowy hill for work this afternoon.
Photoshopping appropriate clothes back onto women holiday makers riding funfair rides that i manufacture, so I can I send the pictures to fairly strict islamic countries !! it actually makes me feel pure 🙂
Today I had a pre contract meeting for some remedial work to a house in Newcastle, followed by a site inspection of some shire piles in York and then some monitoring in Sheffield. Still havent made it to the office , i have lots of paper work to do tomorrow!
The usual mixed bag of cases on murderers, peados and nice people who have been wronged. 😕
Dodged a couple of chairs that flew off the 2's landing on G wing tonight.
Maybe the same agian tomorrow, who knows.
Spent hours on the phone to the US and Hong Kong, going over the Video Conference requirements for a new call center in Manila (while being amazed at the complete inability of anyone in the US to understand anyone who has even the slightest accent), compiling reports for all our WAN circuits in EMEA, looking at NAT statements on some routers in Ireland, checking firewall rules, configuring QoS on a switch and trying to book some leave and swearing at management.
Just tarted up a lesson plan for tomorrow and re did a couple of powerpoint presentations. Spent most of the day teaching in the workshop.
Site visit to an opencast mine that will soon be a housing development followed by a meeting with the planners to tell them how well it is all going.
Working on a cost plan for a health centre refurb and extension for bariatric kids upto 30 stone.
Got to take the roof off and install supports for the hoists to get them on their feet.
Also need a bespoke lift to get them out when their fat little hearts fail.
Unfortunately the PCT cant afford all this, but each user group insists their requirements are forefront and cost savings can come from others. Getting rather fed up as now on version 17 of the cost plan since November last year and still no closer to hitting budget.
Sometimes, I despair
well I'm not working now but I was....
working out the best way to pass some traffic out from a complex and highly secure environment.
Negotiating an intrusion detection contract
setting up some load balancers
and
trying to turn some penetration test reports into something normal people can understand.
Making 70 photos of a fat bint and her fat kids look attractive.
Its never going to end well.
In Dublin this week training engineers on fire detection systems, last day tomorrow so a couple of pints tomorrow night and the ferry back Friday AM, hoping it's a hell of a lot smoother crossing than Mondays outward trip, felt very green and seemed to be one of the few that managed to keep my meal down.
Looking forward to the weekend and working from home next week after 4 away weeks.Cross bike bought on Ebay this week should be delivered next week, so need to sort out a licence and some races.
Just finished giving a talk / presentation about the stuff side of the day job to a walking club. One hour, no script, no jargon, no sleepers and no lynching. Job well done.
Earlier today I have been;
beating stuff with hammers
rearranging the tractors and forestry kit
cutting hedging stakes before it really pisses down
fixing a gate
Today I went for a trip from Fort William to Crianlarich and back, tomorrow it's out to Mallaig and back, done in the driving cab of a train, just to refresh my knowledge of some of the area I need to know.
Running the tech side of an investigator meeting in Hong Kong, and thinking I really should be asleep right now. The great thing about being 8 hours ahead is that I'm getting up at exactly the time I'd like to be going to bed.
Just away to bunker a cargo ferry in Ullapool. I deliver fuel oil to distillaries and ferrys serving the highlands and islands of Scotland, as well as Bitumen to quarries all over Scotland
Reading RTA (Australian Highways Agency) technical specifications for concrete and concrete bridge construction, reviewing construction method statements and checking to see how many of you freaks are still awake in blighty.
Decided not to go to 699422E 7732557S (UTM 34K) because I was there yesterday and the day before checking on a contractor who is building a 10km road so we can get started on the construction of a copper mine. Instead, I will sit in the office overlooking the river and contemplate the construction of 260 houses for the mine workers.
I'm currently playing with the biggest train set in Wolverhampton!
finished first part of blade and VMware updates, watched some videos and now getting ready to go home 🙂
Strolling back and forth from A+E to the wards, cautiously avoiding the horrendously acopic wards that will trouble me with bothersomely minor details that shouldn't even be addressed in a hospital at any time, let along now (6.24am) by me (the only speciality doctor working).....
(although, saying that, I did watch most of "saw 5" this evening....)

As a manager, I poke poo up hill with my pointy stick whilst receiving seemingly constant critisism from my departments "clients". I then have to deal with the moans, which receives more moans from my lot as I am forced to enforce more corporate nonsense and restrictive auditable paperwork thereby reducing overall departmental output and making the "clients" even more critical.
Its like dragging p155 up stairs with a rake.
Clearly its wearing a bit thin and I mentioned the above to a mate, he said "I need some goals in my life and should set some targets for my team and then to monitor their performance with a nice review following an audit." Thanks mate. 👿
I think my job got voted worst when this sort of post was done a few months ago.
installing Oracle on two production servers for a trading network in Frankfurt whilst simultaneously trying to build an online Greeks monitoring tool for our risk department.
And I'm meant to be having a day off today.
But then (and sadly) I love my job so it's not a problem, I'll have this knocked on the head in 15 minutes and then will help get my kids ready for school. Got the rest of the day out in the garden rebuilding the chicken run ready for the 3 new arrivals to our flock later this afternoon.
Beating my head against the wall whilst trying to track down material deliveries to 3 construction sites.
3 Site agents shouting at me, me shouting at 3 suppliers, non of it doing any good.
Shouldn't moan, at least I have a job for which I am thankful for.
Looking for a job.
Anyone need a comp. sci. researcher, let me know.
Dyno testing W12 engines prior to fitting into Bentley's.
There seems to be a fair amount of computery people on STW....
Seam welding an Edition 30 shell ready to fit a rollcage next week and a dummy build before paint.
Trying to head off a compulsory wayleave hearing.
Drafting responses to Freedom of Information requests 😕
Video Editing.
Senior control room technician dont you know!!!
Driving a lorry and collecting shite out of telephone exchanges.
Critically appraising a journal article comparing UpToDate, Google, PubMed, and Ovid. Then some stuff to do with a topic tree and MeSH.
And looking on here. And out the window.
Is it wrong that this thread actually interests me? I'm photographing volumetric architectural models. Badly.
I should be doing my budget / invoices and providing a member of staff my half term spend - however chasing the bank and seeking advice on here is taking over.
This morning I did remove 4 old printers and replaced it with a singular solid ink printer that impressed 3 ladies to the fact they can now print in colour and quickly.
I am also about to re-install one of the old printers removed this morning into another office and make another lady happy.
Just home, I was stood in the rain on a playground assessing childrens cycling skills.
Lying on my bed on an oil rig in the Persian Gulf reading this.
Interesting thread.
Trying sell stuff on Ebay for the first time.

Just finished putting people through the Saw Alive horror maze at Thorpe Park, whilst wearing full face NATO gas masks which sense their breathing, and wireless infrared video cameras, transmitting it back so their friends can watch them poo themselves, and see how it affects their breathing. All worked well, and punters seemed to love it so good day's work for me (except for the four hour journey home).
Joe
In prison this morning with the worlds worst drug dealer, in Mags Ct this afternoon with the worlds worst shoplifter.

In prison all day!
Today was spent examining turbine components on Rolls Royce gas turbine engines..........I may pay more attention in future 😉

Today I are mostly pricing an install of a heat pump, then some PV jobs, then telling my boss what I've done this week.

That's what I thought- Tay Rail Bridge
In a mild panic. Made a set of five custom brackets that are being used to install some christmas lights in a shopping centre over night tonight. Client came to pick them up yesterday - "Yeap they're great.... er where are the other 2 sets?" Turns out there are 3 entrances to the centre and everything was to be duplicated 3 times. Either he didn't tell me or I didn't listen, or more likely both.
Anxiously sitting on my hands waiting for new steel to arrive and wondering how quickly I can persuade paint to dry to get them onsite and ready to install at 6pm.
It'll be fine
I am sat at my desk in london figuring our ways to sell more digital jukeboxes in to pubs.
Did a crown reduction and lift and cleaned up an old sessile oak tree, about 70ft, enjoyed it....
yeps, its the Tay, gonna be a Brrrrrrr cold winter, not looking farward to it but needs must, the view is great and the seals are nice too
What the fudge is that?! ^^^
For some reason I read this as 'Work - what are you wearing?'
I'm sat in Toronto waiting til 5pm, allegedly doing media research. And I'm wearing a short sleeved shirt, jeans, and assless chaps.
A stainless steel ring with a spinning gemstone. 🙂
