anyone tried it before i hit go on some roof bars and mounts for my 107..yes i know it’ll look funny as the bike will be bigger than the car!!

There’s no reason why it won’t. A thing to watch out for is whether the tyres will fit in the tracks…you definitely don’t want Mont Blanc ones if you’ve got wide tyres.

that had crossed my mind too, i have a thule 3 bike towbar rack for my other car and the tyres force apart the plastic grooves but just about fit.

I have a Thule 591 and an older Orange Five i.e before they slimmed down the down tube and I’ve done thousands of miles without a problem. Front wheel strap contraption sits right out at the very end because the arm clamp doesn’t allow the bike any further back.

@royston so with that in mind and the extra length of the 224 di you reckon it’ll fit ?

I have to wind down my forks on a 16″ Alpine to get it to fit on the Thule rack

I have to let ALL the air out my fork when mounting my meta on my giro altea rack. Annoying…

I bought a Yakima cobra rack from rei.com in the states when I had a 223. It holds the front wheel so doesn’t care what the down tube is like. Rei delivered it too, cheaper than a Thule from halfords including import tax!

thanks for your answers, i’ll look into the one you suggest nickhart, and i spied my neighbour has one on his car so I think I’ll ask him if i can size up my 224 on it.

as a follow up to this i tried it on my neighbours rack and it didn’t fit. the clamp wouldn’t get anywhere near the downtube.

Turn the 591 upside down and undo the bolts. 2 adjusts the tension on the arm, the other 2 allow you to slide the clamp back/forward to ensure the front wheel sits on the rack.

@dick, the front wheel sits on nicely, but the arm which grips the downtube is about 4″ off the frame. do you mean slide the clamping arm/wheel groove assembly towards the downtube and just rest the front wheel on the bar?

no worries i have just found this little beauty…

it bolts into chassis underneath and pulls out and stores easily in the boot.

as an update, i fitted the rack today, all very easy, just two bolts per side bolted straight onto existing brackets. all done in 10mins.
rack is solid and takes a minute to assemble/ take apart.
    very happy with it.

all i need to do now is break the wiring loom to install the socket for the lighting board.
may need some help with that.
