Ok thanks. How are you finding the 909 by the way?

Its great, really chuckable. Lots of grip but I think thats mainly due to a lower BB rather than wheel size, when compared with my old C456 anyway.

2015 model has pikes which I think will make it even more fun.

It does look good. I do remember being incredibly impressed with the 905’s ability to rail corners and inspire confidence over drops. I found the bottom bracket height really awkward though – perhaps I should have given it more time.

The 2015 909 looks stunning…130mm pikes on the front, it’ll be ultra stiff and plush!

My LBS think the medium is perfect for me and I’m 5′ 10″, I’ll demo/bike fit the meduim and see how it feels. The medium/large come with a 70mm stem so if I go for a large I’d probably need to drop to a 50mm or maybe even a 40mm which might be a touch too much.

Not sure when my LBS is getting stock as they’ve been waiting on an update as the distributor is saying there’s an issue with supply of 130mm Pikes!

Interesting that the Works/SCR frame has symmetric chainstays. Says in the blurb it’s for increased stiffness. Thought the whole point of assymetric chainstays was stiffness?

edit: Having read up, seems it’s just to make room for gubbins. Carry on.

Yeah I didn’t quite understand the point of stiffness in symmetrical stays either! Shame if there is a delay on the works version as it does look like the one to go for. Pikes, great wheelset, brakes and drive train plus 1/2kg lighter.

LBS have had some hardtails and hybrids in on time but are saying the T-130s are running late 🙁

Phoar, check out the new G150, now up on the Whyte website.

Torn between that and a T130 as an ”all-rounder”.

It needs a carbon model with toned down livery.

I know I’m involved with them, but I’m very impressed with the strength of the range this year. The T-130 Works really does look lovely in the flesh. I don’t think anybody would be disappointed with it.

I can’t wait to get on the new G-150 Works. The new Monarch Plus shock is a huge improvement on the Float X and makes the bike feel so balanced with the Pike. Along with the stiffer SCR chainstay, I’m very impressed.

Spent my whole day at work debating over putting the first T130 works that shows up on my account…

@wiggles Any update on T-130 Works shipping dates?

I really am torn between a T130 S (£2300) and the G150 S (£2800) as an all-round, do it all bike. Typical rides will be anything from Ashton Court, to Afan & Cymcarn trails, forest of dean trails, Bike Park Wales (blue and red). I won’t be doing any true ‘downhill’ runs on it, it’ll just be for trail use. i.e. the gnarliest thing I can see myself doing will be the occasional red run at BPW. My bike shop thinks that the G150 will be ‘’boring’’ in lesser trails, but will come alive on gravity descents and recommend the T130 as the better overall option. Then my 2 mates, one of whom rides an Orange Alpine 160 on all trails, the other who rides a Cube Stereo 160 in everything, recommend the G150 due to the confidence and grins it will bring on descents.

The T130 does look good…I’m just concerned about the very low bottom bracket (pedal strikes), short wheelbase and longer stem (70mm). Whereas the G150 has a longer wheelbase, shorter stem, a pike fork and higher chainstays, meaning that pedal strikes shouldn’t occur as often.

Ultimately, both bikes listed above weigh 13.5kg, although I appreciate there is £500 between them. It’s whether one is going to overkill/a bit dull in most trail situations.

Any advice on where to go with this one? Cheers.

I certainly don’t find my G150 boring on easier trails, so I’d be tempted to go for the G150 in your position. I also find it impressively easy to put in the XC miles on, especially when you consider just how capable a bike it is. I think the G150 having a single chainring, but the T130 having a double, as well as the Pike on the G150 would swing the balance to the G150. Just my experience.

Thanks. It certainly has the more tempting spec: Longer top tube, shorter stem, pike fork, Sram Guide brakes, 1×11 drivetrain, better tyres.

I’ve spent some more time on the 2015 G150 Works now and it really is a lot of fun. The new chainstays are really short and stiff, so it tracks round corners beautifully and popping around on the trail is great fun. Then the suspension performance with the Monarch Plus and Pike really is brilliant, and that was despite me not having time to set it up properly and put volume spacers in the fork and shock.

So are the T-130 Works now available?

Not yet. I’m unsure when they will be.

Getonyourbike – sounds great. Couple of questions if you don’t mind:

    1. Should the new debonair monarch (not the plus) on the G150 S still be a fair improvement over the 2014 model?

    2. Does the long-ish wheelbase of the G150 make itself known at slower speeds, or is it still quite playful?

    3. Is climbing on 150mm of travel a bit wallowy, or given that suspension has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, is the trade off now minimal compared to say a 130mm bike?

My LBS also do Trek and are suggesting a Fuel EX 9.8 27.5, what do the STW hive mind think of it?

    dwoles82-

    1. A mate was riding the G150 S on the DH tracks at Cwmcarn and was very impressed by the suspension. Should be a substantial improvement. The guys at MBR mag were very impressed by the shock on the T130, so I assume they were happy with it on the G150 S too.

    2. I personally still think it’s playful but I’m used to long bikes.

    3. I really don’t think you compromise much when climbing, especially with the pedal and lock settings on the rear shock.

@getonyourbike do you know which issue of MBR it’s been tested in?

They were riding them on Tuesday, so I assume First Ride features will be out in a months time.

Just spoke to lbs, the T130 S has been pushed back from early July to late September, while the G150 S is late August. This is getting silly!

Not great news for me as I’d planned on getting a T-130 Works before having my knee surgery 🙁

Gets an OK review in latest MBUK but not keen on the Fox fork, too expensive to swap fork for a Pike 🙁

I think a lot comes down to the pecking order of the particular shop though. Also, I didn’t enquire about the works version, perhaps that would be due sooner.

My LBS pre-order a whole load of Whyte models on spec in Jan so I’m hoping that means they’ll receive the first batch of T-130 Works but not holding my breath 🙂

Ooh, nice. Let me know how it looks in the flesh, as well as how roomy it feels to sit on. You going for a test ride??

I’ve gotta wait until late Sept as only have credit note for one store 🙁

@dvowles82 Yes will be test riding, going for a medium I think as I’m ony just 5′ 10″ 🙂 Will update with first impressions as soon as I get a ride on one. I’m away when it arrives but my LBS are keeping one with my name on it 🙂 If i don’t like it the LBS already has a queue1

    So…. a Whyte T130 could be mine on Saturday…

So envious, can’t believe I’ve got at least another 6 weeks to wait!

I went into LBS the other day, to my amazement, a lovely T130 S was sitting there on display. It looked gorgeous by the way, the paint is nice and matt. I asked whether they had the bike in stock, they replied ”that’s a small size, but the Medium’s are due in, in a couple of days”. I was surprised as they had advised end of September previously. So I get all excited, they then phone Whyte to confirm….who then say yes…it’s still late September.

getonyourbike – how does the new G150 ride? Maybe interested in one of these myself. Has the new frame design resolved the flex issues of last years bike? I’m guessing the front and rear suspension feel much better matched as well with the better rear shock this year. Any feedback appreciated. Cheers.

Just got this home – just going to set up the suspension then take it for a really quick spin, before riding in anger tomorrow…
