Up at local gym today as ever talcum powder scattered across floor. I’ve never used it is it just for really old folks ? Do you apply it after drying to dry any moist bits ? Or while still damp ? Am I missing out on one of life’s great pleasures?

Was it not chalk powder from a weight lifters hands?

Athlete’s foot powder maybe? Probably just the same thing with some fungicide, other than that wait to catch the culprit in the act and ask him if he’ll powder your moist crevices.

I talc the bits ‘in between’ sometimes, mainly in the summer as I find it helps reduce sweatiness down there.

It’s cocaine. Those women lying down and stretching on the mats are hookers. Go and ask them for a good time.

I forgot all about talc. Seems like it died in the 80’s. I never understood what it was supposed to do. Talc and Vosene shampoo, the memories!

Dying in their 80s is what the people who usually use talc do.

If I could walk that way I wouldn’t need talcum powder.

I use it as part of my evening protocol on multi-day rides: strip off; dry off; wet wipes; dry again; talc; nightwear on.

As above, the powder on a gym floor will be gymnasts’ chalk, the same as climbers use to remove moisture from their hands and improve grip. Don’t use talc for this folks, it’s rather slippy!

Talc is always on changing/shower room floor.

Used talc on inner tubes but mainly tubeless now !

Timba has made the point I came by to make.Don’t use talc. Emerging scientific consensus that it is carcinogenic.

    carcinogenic

Apparently only when used on your Genitals my google search reveals.  Which is a shame as I used it to ensure a dry crotch area after showering if I’m saddle sore.

i use athletes foot powder. Bit prone to the ol fungus if i don’t, what with all the commuting and changing room floor use. Sometimes a bit spills on the floor, but i wipe it with my sock. But i’m considerate liek that, most people aren’t.
Why would gym bunnies use their chalk in the changing room??

Oh, just remembered – yonks ago, we used to play a lot of badminton at lunchtimes, there was this bloke who was too shy to shower (micro penis, maybe) so after badders, he just talced himself up and got dressed! Can imagine the steroid boys at the gym may have similar issues 😁

talc is great for easing latex garments over skin, lots of “those” boutiques in Camden have it to use in the changing rooms, floors are lethal though

Didn’t someone in the states sue J&J for talc containing asbestos recently?

According to Mrs M, I apparently throw the entire bottle of Talc in the air and then dance through the resulting dust storm to apply.

Christ even talc isn’t safe from the “let’s ban stuff” brigade 🙁

I’m sure alcohol/drugs/smoking etc is way worse than a talc fetish !!

Always use the althlete’s foot powder on the gentleman’s vegetables when cycling to prevent fungal infection. Once you’ve had an infection down there, you don’t want another.

Any spills are wiped up with a towel of course.

I still talc my inner tubes if I fix a puncture at home.

And a sprinkling on my feet or in trainers between bike/run on a tri.

It’s good for improving cup rings on furniture as it’s a very mild abrasive.

Mix a little with a touch of furniture oil or something and give it a rub. Fag ash too.

TiRed has made me nervous.  I’m sore with a few bumps and scheduled for 100k/4hrs tomorrow, yet I found some Lamasil in the medi box and have applied appropriately.

I used to use talc around my nuts because, as a programmer, I would be sitting down for many hours and it kept them cooler.

Then I discovered that shaving my scrotum worked much better 🙂

Always use copious amounts of talc as Nature’s best naural dry lubricant when fitting tyres, especially clean sticky new tyres.

hmmm…used to use it all the time as used to get the occasional fungal infection “downstairs” (which was usually a bu**er to get rid of) – last time that happened I stopped talcing and it went away quickly – wondering if it can sometimes turn into grinding paste ?

So don’t use it anymore – I now get the area completely dry post shower and then apply Tree Tree oil – seems to do the trick for me.

hmmmm…… ive been a constant user ‘downstairs’ purely cos i like that baby powder smell 😀

id guess body spray would er….sting a little bit, what are we all generally using to ensure our bits and bobs smell sweet then?

Emerging scientific consensus that it is carcinogenic.

It’s not talc itself, but the packaged product may have contained asbestos in some cases in the past and very much depends where talc is mined. So talcum powder might be or have been carcinogenic, but talc itself isn’t (it’s just a clay mineral).

Issue is asbestos can be found in the same places as talc and contaminated talc powder products in the past. It’s banned from talc powder now and I think some countries substitute the talc for other stuff. However asbestos is nasty stuff and lingers for decades. You might have had talc used as a baby/kid, and this could kick in 20, 40 or more years later. Though danger is mainly from breathing in fibres, and it seems with women in the genital area. Not sure it would be an issue for guys “down there”. The link with ovarian cancers isn’t proven, but admission by J&J that they knew about asbestos in the powder has resulted in big lawsuits against them succeeding.

Didn’t even know talc was a mined mineral until recent years when all this hit the headlines and I looked up what the stuff actually was.

It can be used to help remove sand from feet when leaving the beach.

    Strange but true…
