My choice is either a XC bike with very little braking ability (brakes need a total overhaul and I don’t have time) or else my Demo 8 🙄

I prefer it on my hardtail.
It’s dry, hard and fast at the moment, though the top loop of the south side is shut I believe.

Its easy but good fun. Best on a hardtail for sure, the roots and rocks are big enough so you feel them a bit on a hardtail whereas on any sort of full sus im sure it would take out all of the bumps (which is good if thats your thing I guess)

Theres quite a few tight corners, both up and downhill so your xc bike would probably be best.

I get the feeling that 8″ of travel would be a tad overkill?

I’ll take the XC bike (sorry it’s a full suss) and take my chances with stopping …

Hamish, the Enduro will easily be enough bike for Whinlatter.

Did it on my hardtail on the club Keswick weekend.

UPDATE ON ALTURA TRAIL CONDITIONS – 6th Feb 2009. South Loop is partially open (bottom half). The top half (to Hospital Fell ridge) is CLOSED due to snow and ice in places. The north loop is open as usual and there is frozen snow and ice in many places. Take extreme care.
