Picked up a set of these in the Christmas sales for £15. Great shows for cycling to uni/work then walking about all day.

But took them to a next-level testing last night.

Was down on Leith Walk with two friends last night, getting a macaroni pie from the late night bakery.

While enjoying my carbs a group of 5 teenage lads start milling about asking questions about the bikes and telling me they can steal an Ultegra bike for £40 and what kind of bike is that mister etc etc. Then one grabs the bike and runs off up the street with it.

I give chase to the young ruffian, who despite being a 16 year old lad cannot escape me in my Specialized Cadet SPD shoes. As he realises I’m not tiring and gaining on him, he tries to jump on the bike. As he tries to use SPD pedals with his non-Specialized Cadet SPD shoes I throw half a hot macaroni pie in his face, I close the gap and manage to grab him and pull him to the ground. Some fisticuffs ensue and I was quite enjoying using my weight advantage and beating the crap out of him when I get jumped from behind by a couple of his pals.

Fortunately I manage to hold my own relatively well before some passersby, impressed with my Daley Thomson-esque athletics performance, get everything split up and the ne-er’ do wells scarper up the road, and I still have my bike though a few more cuts and bruises than I had earlier.

So, next time you’re eating pastries and getting your bike pinched, make sure and wear Specialized Cadet SPD shoes! Though my main takeaway from this episode is that I can run faster than a 16 year old. Probably says more about them than me though…

Well done you. Specialized will now cancel all contracts with Peter Sagan and endorse the Leith Lightening Avenger.

    Fortunately and happy ending.

Could maybe have had a very different ending had you not been wearing such awesumz shoes.

Excellent, I have the slightly brighter blue version. I think it’s that subtle difference that draws attention to them and makes thriving scrotes think twice

Well done, I like the idea of you chasing him with a pie in one hand. Thank goodness it wasnt some of these with massive road cleats on.

Don’t forget to wear you undershorts inside out on the outside.

Nice one OP, good to hear that cretins don’t always get away with out a few bruises and a fright. Might make them think twice in future.

His mates had utter confidence in his awesome shoes and didn’t waste half their macaroni pies throwing them at people. Or did it develop into a Leith version of Gangs of New York with pies being used to cause mayhem in the streets?

To be fair, it was an American lad and his girlfriend and there was still 2 of the boys hanging about them and their 2 bikes

I did have to go the chippy afterwards as I was still hungry. Should I start a GoFundMe page to get the 80p back on the pie I never finished?

Thread of the weekend and it’s not even 9 o’clock yet! Props OP! Did you manage to salvage any of the pie?

Edit; guess not. Tragic. Put me down for 10p

More than happy to contribute to the crowd funding of 50% ….. no even 100% of a new pie.

Did you calmly walk back to the shop and buy another pie?

Did you not spot that they were a hit squad from My Hermes wanting to retrieve a bike they’d delivered to you by mistake.

    Good job.

As an aside, I miss being able to procure late-night pies in Auld Reekie. Cant remember the name of that bakery that used to open about 2am, but ’twas awesome.

Wouldn’t want to be greedy. I did get to eat half of it.

Well played on tackling the bawbags – you left out one pertinent issue though, was there any condiment on the pie? I used to play footy with a guy that Specialized in pairing savoury pastry based goods with condiments, ie – a cheese & onion pasty, served on a mortons roll with lots of butter is transformed into haute cuisine with the addition on broon sauce. Whod’st’ve thunk it.

    No sauce on the pie.
I normally carry a wee bottle of tabasco with me, but had forgot to replenish my supply.

Id have wanted to give his head a shampoo with the macaroni pie, not my favourite pie. A good mince and ingin pie i’d have stuffed it in my face before running after him then gie him a blast of the breath right in his face that would have knocked him flat

Leith not one of my favourite parts of Edinburgh although on a sunny evening a nice view over to Fife

I’m now Looking forward to exploring a new-found athletic prowess, and a bit of scrote-related violence:)

It was a good job you weren’t in standard MTB shoes either, they don’t flex enough to run quickly.

I bought me and the missus a pair of the Spesh trainers for pottering about on the bikes.

How did you throw a pie in his face from behind him?
