I had one thought it was Ok, then I couldn’t get blades locally so switched back to a Gillette job fusion thing as it was on promotion. I realised for me I should have stuck to Gillette, Ok blades are expensive but they last around a month for me.
Electric razors sill don’t seem to be anything near as good as wet shave for me.
Gilette fusion or mach 3, but I haven’t shaved for a while as I’ve got nothing to look smart for so I can’t be arsed 😆 Those safety razor things are the singlespeed of shaving.
Spent years using Mach 3’s and getting razor burn and acne, changed to a third hand Merkur Futur and some decent soap, and its like I have a new face 🙂 I found the Feather blades a little ‘bitey’, get on best with Astra Superior Platinum which are sharp enough not to drag, but don’t cut you too often. Some are rubbish, including the Wilkinson Swords you can get in the supermarket. I’m sure they are fine in some razors, but didn’t get on with them with the Merkur.
Used a King of Shaves Azor for the last few years and found it fine – I guess the key point to note is that my stubble isn’t very heavy. I wanted something even easier to use, and a month and a bit ago bought a Panasonic ES-LA63 Pro electric shaver… fantastic!
I never had nicks or shaver rash with the Azor and always would have said it was as gentle on my skin as anything could be, but using the Panasonic has been a revelation! I’d been a bit concerned as apparently it can take a month or so for your skin to become used to the action of an electric shaver. If your skin is very sensitive the Panasonic can be used on wet skin (even in the shower), which apparently makes it even more gentle (and more hassle to clean)!
When I was trying to work out which shaver to buy I called up shavers.co.uk and they were very helpful on the phone.
Gillette Mach 3 or Wilkinson Sword quattro. I got fed up buying the wrong blades because I couldn’t remember which razor I had I just bought the one I didn’t have.
To be kind to my skin I found shaving in the shower and using Bulldog shave gel the best solution for me, king of shaves gel (blue one) is OK as well.
If you are cutting yourself try to not to worry about cutting yourself and hold your face in a way that the skin you are shaving is taught.
I only shave about once a week once told to by boss or wife. Even then it’s just using a babylis I stuble thingy. Take the heavy off down to .5mm. When I have to go clean I would use a bic as above or just not go to whatever requires I need to shave.
Wedding and daughters christening was last time I had a proper shave. I just hate that tight burning feeling.
I now use a double edge safty ( Muhle R89 with 7 oclock sharp blades) razor I tried everything else and just bleed.
the most important thing I find now is the soap you use, Blue Beards Revenge and a good brush
Have a look at the shaving shack on t net
I’m bad at X, therefore if I buy an expensive, or niche, or both type of Y, things will get better…
I’ve shaved my own face with cheapo razors all my adult life and can do it perfectly well. I also get to shave other peoples faces with cheapo NHS razors and can do that perfectly well. In days gone by I also had to shave people from nipple to knee before surgery using cheapo NHS razors and I did it perfectly well.
3 or 4 days without shaving then a cheap plastic bic. but I don’t have an important job where being cleanfaced is somewhat and enforced. well, it is, but I don’t care.

Merkur Progress and feathers for me at home. Gillette Tech and Gillette 7 o’clocks when travelling. A selection of soaps and creams depending upon how decadent I’m feeling. 🙂
Traditional Gillette fat handle (think it’s 1940 to 42) safety razor of course and not those modern metrohomosexual razors advertised by Woody Tiger and his mates. 😆
Traditional Gillette fat handle (bought it for less than £25 but can be expensive) + £0.49 Palmolive shave stick + ebay £8 unbranded far east inhumane cruelly made badger brush + £1.00 Pyrex bowl + £5 Nivea Aftershave Balm.
