    @nicrg you can buy lockable or not. All of those are lockable. Thats why I replaced mine, they weren’t knackered, I just wanted an easy short term lock on the ones closer to the van. I always use No. 2 if I’m on my own.

    I have an altera bike rack (very similar to the VW one) for sale (with a replacement high strength strut) having sold my T5 . Will put it up on the classifieds.

    @Scotsman

    Just as a follow-up to the thread.

    Was really interested to hear of the modifications you made to the VW rack to make it work with Thule clamps and ratchet style wheel straps.

    Would be keen to get a bit more info on what exactly you did and how you made it work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am considering going down this route.

    You don’t have any email address listed, so unfortunately unable to email you directly. Any chance you could make contact with me by email (listed under my profile) so I could ask some detailed questions etc.

    Would be really grateful.

    Cheers, Nic.

    Went from a door mounted Fiamma to a towbar Atera Strada on our T5.

    The Strada is a great bit of kit.

    Fits in seconds, folds flat for storage and easily slides out of the way to allow rear access with the bikes still mounted.

    Not cheap if you dont already have the towbar but in my opinion worth it.
