    Asking for a friend 😉

Anyone converted a Caddy to a Campervan? Particularly has anyone fitted swivels under the front seats so they can reverse to face the back (when camping obvs, not when driving!) Cheers!!

I’m sure it’s been done but I’d imagine it wouldn’t be a comfortable seating position as you’d have to have your legs spread out otherwise your knees will be up round your ears. The seat height Vs rear floor is totally different from the likes of a T5

Have swivel fitted under passenger seat in my T4. Necessary really to be able to seat a family for meals if in the van. Very comfortable, never had a height issue, and keeps you out of the way while management is cooking.

Latch can wear over time so that very small movement in the seat can rattle a bit. Also raises seat by an inch, but other than that no problems

The issue with fitting aftermarket swivels is whether you have the space to rotate. Not normally an issue in a van, and impossible in a car. Caddy will be somewhere in the middle. Is there space either side of the seat for it to rotate?

I have a vw caddy, no space to fit a functional swivel seat

Thanks for that. I fitted single seats on swivels to my T5 when I converted it. It was a very simple job. Just replace the seat bases, fit the swivel and then the seats.

I havent seen the Caddy, but imagine its very similar to my Golf where the seat is attached to the floor and also there is the centre console to negotiate when turning the seat.

I have seen a couple of options. The best being the Zooom one, where the seat is tilted sideways, and then rotated, but looking for actual experience. I will join the VW Caddy forum and ask there as well.

Its actually for my 83yo mother, so ease of operation is important as she has arthritis in both hands.

Boardinbob, agreed the seat will be a bit low, but will add valuable space to an existing cramped vehicle. My mother didnt want anything bigger as its also her daily driver, so needs to be easy to use.

Somafunk, she is just down the road from you in Stranraer. Just for info who is the best VW garage local to you please?

My apologies I didn’t twig the caddy. Can’t vouch for how it works in one of them

Thanks IHN – not seeing any seat swivels though? 😁 No worries Stoner!

You don’t need them though (although I admit it was a STW ‘answer to a question you didn’t ask’ 😉 )

Stoner, are you hanging round outside my house, posting on STW?
