    Shirts.

Sorry, it's dull but any recommendations of where to buy formal shirts that are suitable for a tall man. He is slim, with very long arms, but takes a large collar size.

Manufacturers seem to equate large collar size with large body size.

Thanks awfully in anticipation of millions of replies from the stylish STW'er. 😉

Difficult one. If you dont want to go down the specialist Giraffe-retailer route its high-end with the special 'long-body' options.

I tend to buy from Reiss partly on fit but sadly their shirts are short on me sometimes 🙁

M&S do some of their shirts in 2" longer body and sleeves (for the collar size).

get it tailored, worth the money and a nice gift. Go somewhere poor and it'll be cheap, I'd recommend leicester or Bradford, though a friend used to get all his clothes made in liverpool for less than top man would sell it?

What Megatron said, I go for the 2" longer one and they fit far better.

I used to get YSL shirts when I was into weights – had a 17" knock with a 32 inch waste so most shirts looked like tents on me.

T.M Lewin do a Slimfit option on all their shirts

Gosh, so many replies. Thank you!

Well, not wanting designer option but do need to be suitable for work. M&S do indeed have longer length sleeves but they are so w-i-d-e in the body. In fact, their slimfit option does not come in longer length sleeves.

Thomas Pink do a slimfit as well (and tailored for not much more if you are down London way).

and they are very nice shirts.

Charles Tyrwitt online, good choice of fitted shirts and long sleeves also good prices. TM Lewin are also good. I think they are nearly as good as Thomas Pink and about 1/3 price.

Easy one, this. Charles Tyrwhitt. Outstandingly good shirts. Well made, lovely material, long tails that tuck in and an option to go for different sleeve lengths and body fit. Current sale shirts are way better than M and S and TM Lewin (I've tried both) for equivalent money. They give really good instructions about selecting fit and even explain what ties go with certain shirts. Their customer service is also the best of any online company I've ever dealt with. Their no quibble returns really are no quibble (I think you can send back within 3 months if not happy without even stating a reason). Highly, highly recommended.

I'm not on a commission with them either!

    Very tall?

    Why does he have Kleinfelters?

Best ring shop or check online for stock at your local store?

Next? Burtons? M&S and John Lewis

Don't rate Tyrwitt shirts myself. Thomas Pink are really good but expensive.

M&S do made to measure of a sort at a very good price. You put in your height, weight etc and it does a pretty good job.

The other option is just to get a tailor to put some darts in the body. I'm told you can get it done for about £10 a shirt at a lot of dry cleaners and some shops will do it as well – i bought a sale shirt in Reiss that had been taken in for someone else but came back too small.

Only place I've found on the high street that has "fitted" stuff.

+ 1 for TM Lewin slim fit long fitting. Not usually a huge choice in store, but lots more online. Lots of good offers usually too, like four shirts for £90

Bought a few of these recently (after many TM Lewin shirts) and the fit (slim fit) and quality is superb. You can specify longer sleeves if giraffe like.

Properly tapered waist and nicely shaped.

I would suggest tm lewin. Go in and try some on then buy online where the full range is visible.

Variety of neck sizes and arm length with slim or regular fitting.

Hilditch and Key may also be worth a look although I've never bought a shirt from them.

Forget normal retailers and forget getting anything off the peg to fit. If he is that tall and slim, he isn't catered for (give us height and collar size for steerage).
I can only get shirts with a long enough sleeve OTP from Lewins. Nobody else does a 38" sleeve without going custom. Get their shirts and get them taken in by a local alterations specialist. The M&S custom shirt option only works if you are 'average' or fairly average.

I'm 6'7" with an 18" collar, 48" chest and 38" sleeves and all shirts in that collar size are wide on me – so a slim tall chap needs full bespoke or altered.

TM Lewin will get the tape measure out and make sure you get the shirts you want. Once you know your size you can order online in future.

Lewin are a good fit for the slender chap, but are a little overpriced these days.

Can I recommend Roderick Charles? Also on Jermyn Street (among other locations). Excellent quality tailoring.

JEEESUS your not the lad I tried fighting at school are you? (Hudds) 😯 😆

Thanks again and what a good suggestion about getting shirts altered. 🙂

My son is 6'4" and today he put on his M&S longer sleeve length shirt with a 16" (I think) collar and reckon I could have fitted in there as well! It's this assumption that tall equals wide that he finds so frustrating.

Like many men, he has broad shoulders but there's certainly an array of shapes on here!

Just been doing some searching for him and have found a Lewin's not too far away, likewise Zara. Really would be easier for him to try on rather than ordering online.

Whilst I have your attention, where do you all go for suits?

My best fitted ones were made to measure in Thailand…

But yes I've the same problem. Body needs Large, arms and shoulders need XL.

I was there once – was 6'4" and 12.5 stone age 16 – filled out a bit since then!

For suits, get to somewhere like Suits You or another of the big places. He will probably be fine for suits as he isn't 'that' tall – the German brands have a habit of being longer or even Racing Green if they are still about in cheap places. I am a bespoke man now, but I've stopped growing (up).

Lewins have the widest range of fits and he might be lucky enough to get into their slim fit and get the sleeves long enough. As I said, a relationship with a good alterations business will ensure he gets adjustments to fit him. Oh – get the shirt (and shoes) before you take him for the suit and ensure he wears them – and suits that are tight are not fitting properly.

    (I'm 6'5", 39"ish chest, 36" or so arms, 16.5-17" neck)

TM Lewin Roma fit are the only off-the shelf shirts I've found that fit fairly well (16.5×36" in my case). It's their slimmest fit and looks just about normal on me.

Wouldn't exactly say they're expensive – the last ones I bought were £20 each and they're better quality than the tailored ones I've had from Raja.

Other than the Romas (which were previously Roveretos) nothing at all I've found on the high street fits. (A couple of Zaras if I'm honest, but nothing recently and it's always a jumble sale – Lewin's fit is pretty reliable.) M&S shirts are a joke, you might as well buy a six-man tent from Blacks. It's telling that if you look at them on the mannequins in the shops they're all gathered and pinned at the back because they're made for people built like Bernard Manning.

TooTall – shouldn't you have stopped growing at 16??!! Seriously, it must be a nightmare for you.

Funnily enough, he's actually ordered a suit from M&S. Tried it on in store and I thought it was a really good fit. Longer length sleeves and trousers were fine although fairly roomy in the body. They do some slim fit suits but he didn't like the styles.

Just need to make sure he doesn't start lifting weights again and beefing up. 🙄
