So, I know you’re busy researching the impact hamsters have on global warming and celestial movement but do you have any proof or anything or usual trolling?

I like that mans hat in the “Free” “Syrian” “Army” video. Where can a man get one?

They FSA are executing children in the streets after they make those children watch their parents and families be massacred, they are executing prisoners and then our media is blaming the government for these atrocities.

You know this for a fact?
The two sides keep blaming each other; if the poeple involved aren’t sure who’s responsible, how do you know it for a fact?

Err a man says it in a video on the internet. What moor ‘proof’ do you need?

I’m as sceptical as the next man about the corrupt and evil bastards that wield the power on this godforsaken planet.. but what I truly don’t get is why people like Kaesae have any more faith in the conspiracy theorist’s propaganda than they have in the official party line trotted out by the world’s media..

    am I missing something..?

    EDIT: succinctly beaten to it

simple facts from someone on the ground

Always good to question the official line, but I don’t find any of that particularly credible.

Do a bit more googling and you’ll find plenty of reports from “someone on the ground” reporting exactly the opposite, supporting the UK press coverage that the government troops are killing civilians.

It’s a propaganda war and no mistake – but balancing up officially sanctioned state-media reports from a dictatorship versus reports from Reuters and Assoc Free Press and NGOs, plus what is available from people on the ground, I have to say I think the “rebels” are probably the “good guys” here and President Asshat is the “bad guy”.

This is not a comment on which side you have labelled which way, but chosing to differentiate them with the use of the terms Good guys and Bad guys suggests the propaganda is working.

Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.

    That was my intent. 😀

The truth is always less black and white.

One side is an oppressive dictatorship that is happy to openly murder its own people to maintain control; the other side is a de-stabilising element that fights to overthrow that regime, but could well allow a new Jihadist faction to take control and cause greater conflict in the area.

And would the “rebels” you talk of be “insurgents” across the border, and “terrorists” across the next border?

Of course. One man’s “freedom fighter” and all that.
Hence my use of quotes. 🙂

    (Surprisingly I’ve read Chomsky too).

Hora to the forum please, JY now needs absolute proof, chink in previously impenetrable LA armour found!! 😀

However, interesting and informed though it is, it lacks any smoking gun. Again this is good, for conspiracists, as we all know they would not be as daft as leave some proof. I will sit on the fence on this one till someone offers me some proof.

You seem to think that I am trying to convince you, I am simply pointing out that it might not be a bad idea to research this further.

The issue here is not Assad, the issue is the fact that these fighter are not from Syria. They are foreign fighters who are under the employ and direction of the US and UK governments.

The TV says they are the good guys so that’s all there is to it 😯 regardless of their behaviour or attitude towards human life and freedom. Removing the government in Syria and replacing it with an extremist ragime will only cause instability and conflict, which in turn will only lead to more deaths for the people of Syria.

I do not agree with Assad’s style of government or the harsh treatment that those who oppose the regime face, however it is far less brutal than what the militant extremists will do.

How long have Al Qaeda or other terrorists organizations been used as an excuse to invade countries and change legislation to remove our individual freedoms? now it is convenient to say that Al Qaeda are the good guys, so they become the good guys. The problem with self delusion or mass delusion is that it allows people to believe anything and justify anything.

Here is what we know for a fact, the US want the government in Syria gone! and now fighters armed with US military weapons and equipment are receiving training in Turkey and moving into Syria.

    How do you explain this?

the fallacious ‘war on terror’ continues, although the Western Alliance has realised that getting someone else to do the dirty work is a lot neater and keeps the voters a bit quieter

I’m not aware of my individual freedom having ever been removed under this excuse.

Looking at You tube videos is not research. However, if you want to go to Syria or any other very dangerous place to look at this in more detail, I will happily chip in towards your ticket….

I think it the most effective way of researching.

Admittedly by this I mean researching the epic fails of 2012 and other years should you feel the desire.

Based on my limited understanding of this conflict (I am sure there are many more knowledgeable than me on here) I think Syria is far more complicated than (m)any of here on here understand. Many of the conflicts are religious and/or tribal. If Assad is overthrown that won’t be the end of it, the country will probably descend into further chaos. Many of the tribes will turn on each other in a power battle. For sure some of the factions fighting are either directly involved with and/or support Al-Quaeda whilst others vehemently oppose them and their beliefs. The west I am sure is arming the insurgents to help them in their battle – why and what harsh reality will result from this I don’t think anyone really knows. But we can be confident it isn’t going to be nice. It’s sad how human nature is generally so destructive to the world around it, as it is now and has been for millenia.

The way I see it is that the Syrian government let thousands of nutters into Iraq after the last gulf and were behind the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983 (acting as an Iranian proxy) so the US are now repaying the favour, you reap what you sow.

Sorry, had a few beers so not really going to add any more to this apart from I this, I would trust anything by Lizzie Phelan about as much as anything from Fox news, Jesus, to think we built the 7 wonders of the world, travelled into space and have produced beautiful works of art only to have all that consigned to the history books by our own stupidity!

Here’s an idea. Like ALL your sodding threads, why don’t YOU do the research and come back with a coherent answer? It’s a daring concept I know, but when I was a student, this researching and backing up your theories thing was all the rage and I understand that even in 2012 it has a certain degree of popularity amongst academics and rational thinkers.

It could be worse. You could be being persecuted by MI5 using broadcast and print media (including Chris Tarrant on Who wants to be a millionaire)[/url].

I’d totally forgotten this bloke until alex and Junkyard posted that. He used to hang out on Usenet (uk.local.london or something if I remember correctly) so I got to see this develop in “real time”.

I actually used to work at a firm that was described as either providing or protecting against electromagnetic harassment on some website, and as a result had to deal with “walk-ins” who were the subject of paranoid delusions about being followed, disrupted, surveilled, eavesdropped upon etc. It was actually very sad.
