A tree in the Scottish Highlands known as the Skipinnish Oak has been named UK Tree of the Year.

Not my tree which has more leaves than ever before – constantly hoovering my front door carpet.

Shame it’s stuck in the middle of a conifer plantation. Poor tree needs some light.

Yeah, looks steadily out of place doesn’t it? Of course it’s the conifers that actually are. Lovely old tree though.

Smells like a marketing opportunity for the band.

Yep it looks stunted and not very healthy, a consequence of being starved of light.

While we are on trees – anyone else notice how good the beeches are this year, how quickly the birches have dropped leaves, and how many flippin’ berries there are on rowans?

Locally, the Rowan trees look to have a lot more berries than usual but I think some of that is due to the leaves having now dropped too.
