    Never, ever met that combination.

I have. Tolerance cuts both ways.

Not many votes being counted according to that tracker.

What time of day is it there Graham?

Early morning, I guess from the live news updates I assumed they were continuing the count.

Recounts never change the outcome unless the difference between candidates is a few hundred votes.

Trump can request a recount in several counties in each state and the result will still be the same.

    Only “perhaps”?

    You’re right.

    No perhaps about it.

Try Googling “devout Christian” as opposed to just normal “Christian”.

I’ve met many devout Christians who are extremely tolerant. See also: Devout Muslims, Jews, Satanists, Jedi, athiests et al.

I’ve met many, many more who are intolerant arseholes.

They’re just people. Tolerance is not a function of belief, despite what most religions attempt to teach.

    Whichever wins, Donald’ll grab it.

This deserved at least some credit, if only for speed…

    @Klunk
    black votes matter

I think Trump’s condemnation of Black Lives Matter has hurt him badly there, though he probably made up for that with white “law and order” voters.

From what I’ve read on social media comments, most BLM were not particularly thrilled with Biden but we’re prepared to vote for him to get rid of Trump (to be fair I think that applies to many. Even Republican voters have said the same)

Analysts pinpoint a surge in turnout among young people of all races, but especially Black Americans.

I saw one analysis that showed how the electoral map would look if only the under 30s voted. All blue apart from the central states.
(Caveat: They didn’t give a source for their data and we know how accurate polls are on Trump votes!)

    Not sure its right

    Also in Penn.

100,000 votes counted and the change was only 27??? Nah.

    I’m not particularly devout though.

    Nor tolerant for that matter.

    Luckily, i’m guaranteed forgiveness.

I normally have little interest in the US elections, but this has been fascinating. I really hope Trump ends up in a proper jail and not a country club with a ten foot high fence around it. Sadly I don’t think that will happen. He’ll end up with his own TV show or something because this is America we’re dealing with.

I don’t see it. He’s got enough money and power to keep the legal wheels spinning long enough to live out the rest of his life, and if that doesn’t work and he suddenly finds himself in danger of being shackled in an orange jumpsuit in Court, he’ll do a Carlos Ghosn and flee to Russia or somewhere.

Me too, the better I got to know them the more I realised that the “devout” tag was inappropriate and would have better been replaced with “genuine”. The devout ones were all like the many many more you’ve met because devotion is by nature exclusive and thus intolerant.

Ayhow enough of derailing a politics thread, back to the election. I shall desist.

Tricky to do with a 24/7 security detail. Like all ex-presidents he knows the nation’s secrets. You don’t let people like that just waltz over to Russia.

    Left-footer?

I consider eternal forgiveness as the justified payback for a lifetime spent wracked with guilt and remorse, despite not quite being sure what I’m meant to feel guilty or remorseful about.

    Seems only fair

In much the same way that the epithet “keen” gets attached to cyclists.

Especially dead ones. He was a “keen cyclist” – sort of implies that he wasn’t a driver (one of us), he was a bit weird for being KEEN on something so niche.

The papers use it too if they’re trying to shit-stir against someone they don’t really have a lot on. Keen trainspotter = we can’t outright accuse him of being a murderer but we can make out he’s a bit of a weirdo.

“Devout” is the same in religious circles.
It’s only one step short of “fanatical” which definitely tips it into weirdo territory.

Bar the shouting, of which I’d imagine there will be quite a bit.

Do you think Trump and his team actually believe the lies they tell? Do they genuinely believe there’s a conspiracy against them or are they sitting around going “what shit can we make up to stop this?”

    Nope.

I prefer to cut out the useless layers of middle management and deal directly with the Boss.

This is pretty likely going to be the final map. Trump cannot win without PA. Even with it, he would still need two of NV, AZ, and GA.

Some do, I think, it’s easier for some folk to deal with a narrative that you have “control” over. Lots are in it for the Grift though.

No news from North Carolina for ages, when they were both at 94% votes counted it was just as likely to go to Biden as Georgia. Nothing has chnaged IN NC in nearly 24h, why not?

I don’t think Trump can actually tell the difference between fiction and reality. He’s a marketing guy, he just says whatever suits him. He’s not lying in the sense of deliberately saying things he knows are false, he just lives in a world where nothing is true or false, just convenient or inconvenient.

I suspect his acolytes range from cynical frauds to deluded fools. Part of the legal challenge thing is that everyone is terrified of Trump and the MAGA crowd so they’re putting on a show of making legal challenges to keep him happy, but most of them know that it’s hopeless. If they don’t play along, they’ll be FIRED!

So this is perhaps a bit premature. There are clearly more ballots still to count than the difference between the candidates. But with the late-counted mail-ins strongly favouring Biden, is this it?

So how do they know 6% are outstanding? If there are that’s enough for another Biden win givne the heavy democrat bias in postal votes: Biden called for people to postal vote as an anti-corona measure, Trump told people to vote in person.
