I’ve been left behind with the TV technology.

So is it possible to get a PC monitor, with HDMI working as a TV, wirelessly, with a little magic box of some sort?

Not easily. You could buy a freeview digi box and plug an aerial in. Sort of wireless. Another option is a pi or chromecast. That will allow you to watch on demand tv over WiFi.

You can buy tv cards that slot in the back of a tower pc.

Just buy a TV to use as a monitor.

You could plug in a cheap android box/raspberry pi/roku/chromecast etc etc (roku and probably android box would have remote) and connect a Slingbox to a TV box which would let any of the above, as well as pretty much any other smart device you have that is Slingbox app compatible be able to receive and control the TV box.

obviously you would need a slingbox (£100), TV/freeview box if you don’t have one already and one of the players to connect to the TV.

Or just connect the tv/freeview box into the monitor directly and sort out an antenna. Anything with Youview is the best IMO as it has all of the UK catchup and the best EPG integration.

Another option would be a Raspberry pi running Kodi and get streaming live TV. I’m not sure if you would need a server to run in the background for the raspberry pi to be a client for it.
