I’m quite well aware of the STW lilly-legged propensity. I do actually have some longs but never feel the need for them

it’s something to do with being outdoors in the wettest part of the UK. And it makes a good photo.

but the main reason we do it is because it’s great fun, both doing it and watching :o)
