Thought I’d try this out as I’ve seen it mentioned a few times and have to be honest I’m a complete numpty when it comes to all this tracklogs/gps/digital mapping stuff.

Downloaded the free trial and can’t find anything on the map, there’s just one spot in the middle of the UK that shows up on the map, wanted to try it on my local trails … am I missing something or need to click on something, I’ve just got a white blank map? Can’t see anything obvious to do?

Or, is it the only available bit of the UK on the trial version, some square mile in the midlands somewhere … in which case I’ll delete it and not bother as I don’t see the point of trying it out on a part of the UK I’ve never been to or don’t know!!

    Thanks

It’s the trial version. They give you some mapping to let you play around with it. They all do the same.

Mmm, like I said this is all new to me, I thought it would be something that covers the UK and you would just go to your area or area of interest and work out routes, doesn’t seem as easy as that? … Think I’ll stick to my paper maps then, looks like the sort of thing where you spend too much time sitting at a computer getting a headache, can’t really see the advantage myself?

    😕

    Thanks

It’s hardly be a free “trial” version if they gave you the whole UK for nowt. I’ve been using digital mapping for ages now (Anquet) – fantastic invention 🙂

I use gpsu, the trial is sufficient for a days riding although for multiday or hikes you can pay (a modest fee) for the full version.

It doesn’t include any maps but instead allows you to scan and calibrate your own maps (OS, sketches etc…) so long as you can provide the coordinates for two or three points (usually provided by google earth in my case) your good to go.

I wasn’t expecting the whole of the UK for ‘nowt’, I realise it’s a trial version, but surely it wouldn’t be that difficult in this day and age with fast broadband/technology, etc., to enter your postcode within the download of the trial version to get your local area and make it so you can’t save or print and just a few days use – I really don’t need 30 days on a 5 mile square in middle of nowhere, but at least you could see what it can do for places/routes you already know, I might have had more interest then?

Maybe I need to see what else is out there or what it can do, before I right-off this sort of thing completely?
