I've been listening almost exclusively to Springsteen for the last few days- mainly the river,Nebraska, born to run and Darkness and I had forgotten what a fantastic writer he was,
My top 3 are
The river
Atlantic City
Racing in the streets
What would your top 3 be?
Thunder Road
Jungleland
4th of July, Asbury Park
Lost in the Flood
Point Blank
Racing in the Street
Thunder Road
Blinded by the Light
Highway Patrolman
Thunder Road (Piano/harmonica version from '75)
Racing in the Street (which was written as the follow up I think)
Anything from Nebraska
Thunder Road
Badlands
I'm on Fire
Just as I opened this thread, my Spotify playlist started Brilliant Disguise, one of my favourite tracks...
Atlantic City
Thunder road
Blinded by the light
American Skin if we are talking more modern stuff
Anything he does live 😉
Highway Patrol Man
Racing in the streets
Terry's Song
Incident on 57th street ( particularly the live in Japan cd version )
4th of July (sandy)
Backstreets
Thunder Road
Racing in the streets
Outlaw Pete* (just to p**s off the Springsteen aficionados)
*I know, I just like it. Ok?
Incident on 57th street
4th of July (sandy)
yep. Those as well.

You are only allowed 3 🙂
So, if one were to start with Brucie from scratch, where would one start?
Sorry to hijack.
Because of the memories they evoke:
Born to run
The River
Streets of Philadelphia
So, if one were to start with Brucie from scratch, where would one start?
For me - Hammersmith 1975

Just get stuck in - start with the earlier albums - born to run, darkness, Nebraska
Born To Run - Live
Downtown Train
The River - Live - absolutely love it when he tells his story of growing up and failing his army medical. Superb.

for the exuberance (good place start for Springsteen newbies)
Because the Night
Nebraska - for sheer bleakness
+The River - Wembley 84, he just walked up to the mike and told the story.
Could easily have three versions of Thunder Road.
The River - Live - absolutely love it when he tells his story of growing up and failing his army medical. Superb.
"That's good" 😉

I would definitely begin with born to Run and then work outwards from there, but be prepared for quite a few disappointments after Born in the USA.
I'm on Fire
Murder Incorporated
Secret Garden (but I'm unsure why)
but Born in the USA and Philadelphia re also vying for top 3 slots...
Secret Garden - first dance at our wedding. Has to be there really.
One step up.
My Hometown.
Ask me again tomorrow, second two could be different.
For me - Hammersmith 1975
This. Such a sensational live performance.
be prepared for quite a few disappointments after Born in the USA.
Tunnel of Love is massively underrated. Well I like it anyway.
Now this may make me sound like a Boss-heretic, but I could never get into Nebraska.
Tunnel of Love is massively underrated. Well I like it anyway.
So do I. Just re-played it and had forgotten how good it is.
Thunder Road
Racing in the Street
Backstreets
and I want to pick a live track:
Not ashamed to say it made me cry the first time i heard it...

You maybe right about Tunnel of Love but Nebraska noooo,it could be my favourite,it's an album from a dark place which kind of fits my mood at the moment.
Brilliant Disguise
Streets of Philadelphia
Tougher than the Rest
I used to listed to Brilliant Disguise on my budget hifi system with a Garrard 301 turntable. Then one day i was invited to play it on £50k worth of Linn and Naim. Spooky!
badlands live
wreckin ball
going down live hardrock 2013
springsteen live 75 -85 live wood be a good place to start.
The river, gives me a lump in the throat
Glory days, just love it's bouncyness
Tunnel of love, just becuase I remember my mum playing that album while doing the ironing and it makes me smile, quite a lot of my memories of that time don't make me smile.
Fat man sittin on a, little stool, takes the, money while his eyes take a walk all over you........
Not much newer stuff being picked. Terry's Song'll bring a lump to your throat when you know the story behind it. Last Carnival too.
Newer stuff:
Girls in their summer clothes, or Death to my hometown.
Older, Promised land.
Thunder Road
Glory Days
[s]Born to run[/s] The River
There are too many to limit it to just 3 - too hard man! 🙂 It's probably hard enough to find the top 3 albums of his let alone songs.
Cadillac Ranch has always been one of my favourites. Strange because it is not anything "special" as a song but I loved it when I first got the River and have loved it ever since.
Racing in the streets - live, this summer at Wembley was a moment of musical magic
And pick anything from Jungeleland, Born to run, The River, Badlands, Shackled and drawn, Mary's place, wrecking ball, glory days, backstreets, thunder road, factory, save my love, Sherry darling, two hearts, no surrender. And that's just scratching the surface really.
Starting from scratch with the new stuff then Wrecking Ball is a great album to begin with.
I'm On Fire
State Trooper
Hungry Heart
Only 3 ?
Talk about setting impossible limits 🙁
Varies depending on mood but
Jungleland ...
Atlantic City ...
Racing in the Street
Or is it
Or it could be
You get the picture ....
Only 3? Ouch!
Today's choices:
Youngstown
Downbound Train
The River
No idea which three I'd pick tomorrow 🙂
Some great memories in the tracks suggested above but no Candy's Room?
Wild Billy's Circus Story
Nebraska
Mary, Queen of Arkansas
(think I'm a glass half empty kind of bloke 😉 )
Jungleland, The River, Atlantic City.
Epic tracks, but years ago I could have given some more interesting choices - it's a long time since I've listened to Bruce properly, I've forgotten the gems tucked away on the albums.
Grew up listening to Bruce as a kid, but my getting into music more seriously coincided with him temporarily shitting the bed with that Lucky town - Human touch phase. Parted company then so now just admire from afar.
I thought I'd contributed to this earlier:
Atlantic City - cover by The Band
Because the Night - cover by Patti Smith
Rosalita
Thunder Road,
Candy' s Room,
My City of Ruins
So many good songs seems ridiculous not to pick anything from Nebraska .
My father's house, badlands, we take care of our own. Tomorrow would probably bring different choices. 3 is not enough.
Thunder Road
The River
Badlands
Thunder Road being the only one set in stone. And agree that it could easily be 3 different versions of Thunder Road.
If you ever get the chance, check out The Rising. They're an awesome tribute band

Not had this one yet (yes, I know I've had three already...) Beautiful lyric.
This live version shows that it isn't just Bruce Springsteen, without the E Street Band he'd would have been nowhere near as effective as an artist. Such a talented group.
The River
Magic
Spare Parts
Anything off The River. Its the only double CD I have in the Garage when fettling.
Oh, and State Trooper.
The man can't do no wrong!
There is no way three can be enough. Three albums maybe but three tracks not a chance. Saw him live at bramall lane in Sheffield in the 80's it was my first concert and ruined everything else ever since. Three and a bit hours of music and stories and good time.
The boss.
^ that was my first Springsteen concert - Tunnel of Love tour
3 Springsteen songs? Today it is:
no surrender live/solo acoustic
ghost of Tom joad live with Tom morello (from London)
really liking lost in the flood at the moment too.
I've seen Bruce twice this year, once last year and maybe 15 times in total. I grew up on Bruce, discovered my own favorite tracks and albums as a teenager (more nebraska/ stuff from tracks) in adulthood I understand a lot of the songs he wrote when he was around my age and my dad and I have a shared love for Springsteen. We try to see him every year, usually abroad as a bit of father/ son bonding!
me too remember the ground shaking when he sang born in the usa just hoping he does some more dates in the uk next year
the river
glory days
phileadelphia
3 from the Boss is a tough call
1. The River - still gives me goosebumps after all these years .
2. Promised Land
3. Then it's a toss up between Darkness on the Edge of Town and Racing in the Street
....but will prob change my mind 5 mins after posting - too hard!
Definitely Meeting across the river as my fave.
The Promised land.
Jungleland.
Stolen car(stunned no else has this)
Then because no one has them
Reason to believe
The factory
weirdly I never claim to be a Springsteen fan, but I do have most of his albums and have seen him live. Tomorrows painting the living room day so this thread means it will be Springsteen most of the day
Anyway:
Downbound Train
Youngstown (live in NY version, much more anger behind it)
The River
(also Stolen Car, Lonesome Day, Thunder Road.......ask me again tomorrow night and it will have changed)
Here are my top 3
For the car
Badlands
Cover me
The river
Late night listening
My city of ruins
Atlantic City
Lost in the flood
For happy singalong
Hungry heart
Dancing in the dark
Rosalita
Newer stuff:
Magic
American land
I have a lyric from land of hope and dreams tattood on my wrist. Thats how "Boss" I am.
Today's list-
Racing In The Streets
Human Touch
Backstreets
I can't pick just three without trying to listen to the albums again. However Jungle land would be there. Especially since saw him at the Olympic Park this summer. Previously saw him at Leeds on the Born in the USA tour, so it was apt that he did the entire Born in the USA album. Took my 21 year old son who had never understood the Boss. He does now and my CD collection is now on his iPod. Trouble is that I have some of them on just vinyl.
My 3 favourites are on Tunnel of Love
Brilliant Disguise
Tougher Than The Rest
Walk Like A Man (mainly because it reminds me of my dad)
