  • Tiny electric bike pumps (Fumpa / Cycplus / Amazon) – good gift?

I’m looking for a gift for a good friend who has a range of bikes but mostly road-ish. He’s always found punctures more of a faff than the rest of us, and he’s quite tech-y. I’ve seen ads for those little USB chargeable pumps and, basically, if they’re any good then it seems like a good fit for him.

Does anyone have any experience / advice on them? I don’t want to spend lots of money on something wasteful, I know most people would just carry a good pump but he’s probably got about three of those already and still I end up using mine if we’re riding together and he gets a puncture.

There seem to be a wide range of prices, sizes and specs on the Evil Online Shop, I’m looking for recommendations or reviews on here if possible.

I’ve got a couple branded cyclami from alliexpress i can highly recommend them. I no longer carry co2 or a pump, just the battery mini pump. They work really well much better than  I was expecting.

Instead of some throwaway electronics from Amazon or Aliexpress how about a good quality frame pump that fits the bike? We can forget how well they work in the days of pocket pumps. If you’re a weight weenie maybe it’s not your thing but it won’t make or break your segment times, honest – good frame pumps are class.

IME they are just another version of CO2 pumps – with the same limitations – a fixed, small number of puffs. My chum had a puncture a couple of weeks ago and using electric, ran out before succesful inflation. He borrowed a mini pump.

I used to use CO2 until I punctured, in winter, solo, in the middle of nowhere. One of those when you can’t get it up (ahem). I got very cold, used my spare tube, both bulbs and still had a squishy tyre. Luckily I limped to a bike shop a few miles away and fixed/replenished then finished my ride.

Since then, each of my bikes has a mini pump and I don’t use electric or CO2.

I’ve got a fumpa classic, had it for a while. It does 3 or 4 large tyres per charge from flat. Small but not the lightest to carry around.

    I’ve just been given a Cyclami A2s.

Tried it out in the garage and it blew a 29 x 2.4 tyre up from flat 2 and a half times.

Will see how long it lasts after I’ve used it a few times.

Only plan on using it for local rides.

I’ve got the 2nd smallest cycplus one (the one with a pressure gague).

I like it more than I thought I would. You have the compactness of CO2 but a bit more flexibility – particularly being able to top up a squishy tubeless tyre without wasting a whole shot. And it hadn’t occurred to me how much less stress there is when you can just set the right pressure and not worry about it.

By no means an essential item to own, but surprisingly good nontheless.

Muc-off have just released a small electric pump.

but yeah, I’d still be hard pressed to ride without a mini pump in my pocket, just in case.
