Anyone got any idea how much food and drink is? Not been before. Been to Andora before and beers were about 5euro. Heard that french resorts are 8-10euro ?!

We were there in summer so out-of-season prices might apply, but nothing was too excessive. Couple of euros for an icecream, I think 10 euros for a pub meal with a pint.

It’s very easy to pay €8 for a pint in a French ski resort these days, and €15+ for your spag bol.

Lunch in the mountain restaurants is very expensive as Shifter states, though there is loads of places to choose from.

We tended to drink in the hotel bar where they had a reasonable happy hour and then take advantage of the free wine with the evening meal. The couple of times we went out beer was stupidly expensive – though can remember the exact prices.

Skiing is superb though which makes up for the high prices. We’re off again in March to the same hotel we stayed in last year in Tignes, after staying in Val d’Isere this year.

    What ^^ said.

Haven’t been there for a few years now but in early/mid 2000’s was around £5-£8 a pint outside happy hours in a bar.

Its one of the reasons I’ve mainly gone to Austria since then. Just got fed up with being ripped off and not getting value for money. Skiing/boarding is great though and makes up for it as long as its not poor visibility or windy as there is nowhere to hide!

Been there are few times in the last few years – prices are pretty standard for French ski resort (ie 2x what you’d pay in an Italian ski resort). 15E for a meal proper plate of food sounds about right. You can ski over to Val d’Isere where food in the valley isn’t that outrageous but on the slopes it can be very expensive.

We normally pick resorts on the French Italian border, so you can ski both sides and eat in the Italian side (much better value for money).

    As above really.

If you would like an inexpensive lunch, but not on the mountain, Tignes le lac, Spar (I think) has an excellent take out, always a couple of hot options, even has a few tall bar tables in the entrance to nosh at.

Assuming you’ve already booked I just wouldn’t think about it. You’re basically a captive audience, so just accept that the prices are what they are and enjoy your holiday (and cry about your bank balance when you arrive home)

The prices above are about right…. Personally I love Tignes though, the ski area is great and I like the atmosphere. I always go for a catered chalet though to keep tabs on the cost (only paying for lunchs and drinks) – and I don’t drink that much!

The Spar shop is awesome for lunch times. Just off the piste and cheap, I think last year I got a baguette and a can of coke for 5 euro. Free wifi too. Also, taking the steps just to the left of the Spar takes you to an ok restaurant, can get a pizza and a pint for about 15 euro.
There are some cheapish places to eat in Val, though choose wisely, some of them are quite expensive, 50 euro for a burger!!!
Best advice really is to eat lunch early or later than normal, the pistes are usually lovely and quiet at lunch times 🙂

Was there last week… Omelette and Frites or a Bolognaise was coming in around €11, Vin Chaud about €3.50 iirc, Choco-Rhum about €5.50-€6.50, didn’t have any beer in “typical” places so won’t comment there.

I worked on the principle of €20 for lunch and a drink, and you might get a few € back as change.

Which bit of Tignes? Couloir bar in Val Claret had beer at €4 in the evening (nearly an acceptable price for those of us used to German/Austrian/Italian prices). Le Coffee bar the best Vin Chaud.
