Those Shimano Shifter Window things

If you take them off it has a hole under the shifter can you buy the plastic plate that goes over that ??

Its for some xtr ones from a few years back

had a quick look on CRC but no joy

Only the current generation i think.

not sure about the model you have but the window unit usually has the plastic plate you need screwed into the back of it. (xt's do anyway)

its my mate who is after some if he can get some for his m952 xtr shifters

Older XTRs don't have such a thing, but you'd be surprised how "factory" a bit of that false carbon fibre frame protector stuff looks on there.

I use a bit of black ductape and that looks pretty smart actually too.

Not sure whether your mate has chosen to remove the shifter windows or he's busted them and wants a repair. I've got two suggestions:

1. I've got some replacement M952 shifter windows I could sell for a small consideration.
2. I've got a Shimano "flightdeck" computer that fits to the M952 shifters and covers over the old shifter window fittings. The parts that affix to the shifter units could be used on their own and have just a small opening (for a wire) that could be easily sealed.

By the way – since I moved over to GPS and ditched the flightdeck, I've been running with a bit of black ductape too 😉

A mate of mine who tinkers with carbon bits & bobs gave us some left over pieces of carbon fibre.
A couple of us just cut it to shape & screwed it in place, with some old inner tube as a seal. Seems to work OK. You could probably do the same with some small off cuts of aluminium plate or whatever.

Try a couple of good LBS's who might have some after removing them after fitting for punters who didn't want them

If anyone has taken their windows off, and wants a beer token or two in exchange then I'd be happy to talk to you!!!

He just want to take them off so its looking like a bit of gaffa tape could do the trick

yup, thick insulation tape (electricians tape) or gaffa tape.
