Ran it with my ultra-running sister, who’s doing the South Downs this weekend

    How cool 👍

Let us know how she gets on (it’s on my bucket list to do)

Anyone else running the Great Birmingham 10k on Sunday? I’ve been put into the “challengers” group which is apparently going off with the elites. Given I’ll be happy with anything under 25 minutes I think that group may be a touch ambitious…

    10k in under 25 minutes?

I’d be happy to do a 5k in under 25 minutes!

I’ve had a good week of running . Coming off the back of a run of parkrun pbs I ran my 50th at Ashton Court on Saturday.

Decided I’d take it easy because I had a 10k next day but somehow knocked a minute off my pb of two weeks before.

Then on Sunday ran Newport 10k and beat my previous 10k Pb by 3:30 and nearly 10 minutes quicker than a year ago.

To cap off my running week I got an award for most improved runner at my local running group.

Keep at it funk master p!

Started running in March 2017. Struggled to run 5k for the first month, two months in I was up to nearly 10k.

A year on I’ve run 3 half marathons.

    I was 17 stone, now 14 stone.

Despite earlier protestations regarding 10k being my limit these days, I may be in the process of being talked into a half. Bugger.

Great running JGJ! Amazing what a bit of regular running can do…

Afternoon. I’ve just joined the Strava Group. Kind of opposite for me, I’ve just got back into MTB since giving it up for running 2+ years ago.

If anyone is in Shropshire and wants to run in some good hills and maybe some fell races I can recommend the Summer series organised by High Sports in Shrewsbury. The fell running scene is great, so low key and some great folk.

Anyway, hope you all have fun this weekend. I am off to Wales to do the Siabod Challenge – 20 miles and 8,800 ft of climb. OK its a hiking challenge but it would be rude to not run bits of it 🙂

BTW I will appear on Strava as me, Simon Rollason 🙂

I’m currently at 49 minutes for a 10k. Want to try and knock 2 minutes off that by the end of the year.

Just got in from what was supposed to be an easy 7km. I really hate running in the warm! Respect to those on the SDW this weekend, looks toasty.

Not complaining about the weather; I’ll go riding instead. But I’d far rather it was below freezing if I could choose the weather for my run!

yeah I had a sweaty jog this afternoon, feeling a bit worn out by the end though that might have been something to do with yesterday’s bike ride. Anyway it certainly doesn’t make me want to do a summer of marathon training.

Bad week this week with work and kids being ill. Would the general consensus be to go back and redo week 2 of the 5k plan or move straight to the first day of week 3? I’m genuinely unsure of which to do. Any advice appreciated.

Depends a bit how confident you’re feeling but there’s certainly no harm in repeating a week.

Likewise, I’m doing a couch-to-5k, apparently my cycling muscles are irrelevant to running

I’m the opposite, first MTB ride of the year tomorrow, lost my mojo over the winter, first time in 15 years. Be interesting to see how the running helps or otherwise!.

Did the clumber sprint duathlon yesterday, 1hr 25.

Did the 5k in 28min (pb is 27:11) and last run was quicker, pleased with that 15mins faster than last year though will have to train harder to get much faster.

As normal 10mins into the 1st run and throught the second run i was never going to run again, ten mins after the end “when’s next years?”. Good event though not sure how you can not draft when so many bikes are on the road with traffic.

Weather turned out ok for Stuc a’ Chroin if a bit claggy. Another win for Finlay Wild by 11 mins over 2nd place. 2nd vet40 for me with a bottle of whisky and a Pete Bland voucher as the prize. The benefit of being a vet is you can be a bit shit and still get a prize!

Pretty gubbed now after two hard races on consecutive weekends.

Edit: in fact, having had breakfast I’ve just gone back to bed!

Well done spin, great result, top effort! 🕺

Well, turns out running transfers pretty well across into biking (haven’t ridden at all really since early november) tickled up climbs that would usually have me struggling no probs, and really felt the power improvement when up out the saddle cranking a big gear on the flowy stuff.

I only tired toward the end, which is expected on a 5 hour ride, as I only rarely run over an hour.

Its easier to get the intensity running I think, too easy to coast cycling. We were musing in the car on the way down about entering the 3 Peaks CX this year so I hope the fitness does transfer well as neither of us will manage much riding prior to it. I’ll take Rob Jebb as my role model for that.

Chuffing hot for yesterday’s 15k at QECP, I’m going to leave it much later this afternoon up there before another hack around (expect it will be quite busy 🤣)

Can anyone recommend me some compression shorts that have no internal seams? I have some Decathlon ones which are brilliant but they don’t seem to do them now. I’ve also got some Skins ones but they have internal seams which start to chafe on long runs.

First run in absolutely ages on Friday. I fancied doing some exercise that wasn’t sitting down, as I’m getting slightly worried about my posture (spend the day sitting in lectures, then all the exercise I do is hunched over a bike).

Steady (34 min) 5k, with the only goal to focus on being fluid and not get hip pain, which I managed. Felt fine that evening, went out for a few hours on the bike too, but woke up the next day with proper muscle soreness (hobbling around type deal), the sort I haven’t felt in years of bike racing. I suspect a bit more regular running will lessen this, or is it something you lot just put up with?

If you’re pushing into new territory whether that be a 5k or a 100 mile ultra you’re going to hurt at times. If you’re just doing the same distances then it should get easier.

Brum 10k done, really hot, badly paced and so really hard. I think I need to accept that I’m not as fit as I think I am and so either need to train harder or aim at slower times. With hindsight going for 42 mins was a silly idea and I paid for it.

So it’s back to the drawing board, some better training, better food choices and then hopefully some better times.

More racing might help lunge, it certainly improved my fitness and made me better able to judge pacing. And when you say ‘better food choices’ what do you mean?

Days like today are a useful reminder that there’s really quite a fine line between a bit on the cold side and too bloody hot!

When it’s hot like that, best not chasing times IME, hindsight is easy though.  Well done all the same.

I’m not sure if you’ve looked at these 2xu’s, they’ve got seams but mine seem not to rub.. but I’ve just bought these and first run in them today..

They’ve got an inner liner, that you can run in separately if you like.. or just the shorts.. today I ran in the combination and hardly knew they were on..

    Just been for a run.

I’m doing the Manchester 10K in two weeks so started training, erm, last Monday.  What could possibly go wrong.

    Today’s lesson, 25’C + not fuelling properly = bonking at about 2km.

Believe me, after 20hrs they will rub. That’s why I’m looking for seamless ones.
