    Tougher than the ’90s choice.

    Absolute toss up between…

2 Many DJs. As Heard On Radio Soulwax pt2.

    and…

The Go! Team. Thunder, Lightning, Strike.

Not to everyone’s taste but if you’re into the genre then Iowa by Slipknot is a strong shout for the metalheads.

There’s a list of classics albums that I could roll off.

I’m going with Neon Handshake by Hell Is For Heroes or Vertigo of Bliss by Biffy Clyro.

But every album mentioned so far is brilliant to be fair.

The Stokes debut is right up there, saw them on that tour, my arm was in a sling due to a broken collar bone and I bounced my way through the gig, thought another trip to a&e was on the cards. Ryan Adams debut is so much better than Gold which made him. A lesser known one would be Lapalco by Brendon Benson.

And I didn’t expect to see it nominated already. *fist bump*

Saw them play it twice this year, just as good as they were 20 years ago.

Not my album of choice for the decade, but just wanted to acknowledge my joy of some one even knowing who Brendon is (other than due to the raconteurs).

a great artist with some brilliant early albums and also responsible for one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.

The Streets – Original Pirate Material

    Has it come to this?

Otherwise some of my all time favourites from the era:

    Crisis by Alexisonfire (2006)

    White Pony by Deftones (2000)

The Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow (2008)

    Leviathan by Mastodon (2004)

    Kid A by Radiohead (2000)

In Absentia by Porcupine Tree (2002)

This probably doesn’t count but the original MoS Chillout Sessions was a real eye-opener for me, that one album (and specifically disc one) has probably had the most influence over the music I listen to to this day.

I like these music posts as it opens up stuff I’ve never listened to and what floats other boats. Can’t name one particular album but these spring to mind.

Iron Chic – You can’t stay here.

    Blue Stones – Hidden Gems

Brad – In the moment that you’re born

    Tremonti – Dust

    Ryan Adams – Ryan Adams

Coheed & Cambria – The colour before the sun

    Mark Lanegan – Bubblegum

responsible for one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to.

I think I saw him in 2005 in Glasgow.

The Streets and Kid A are good shouts.

    Also contenders for me:

    Fever Ray – Fever Ray

LCD Soundsystem – The Sound of Silver

A bit niche but James Holden – the Inheritors is a favourite too

Great to see what folk are picking…some great choices. I find it impossible to pick an outright ‘best’ from a great decade of music.

So, I am going to go with: Zero 7 – their first three albums as a collection: Simple Things, When it falls, The Garden

(In Rainbows is up there too……)

Killers, Hot Fuss (though there’s not much to call between that and a few others, including The Go! Team: Thunder, Lightning, Strike as mentioned above, and Arcade Fire: Funeral)

I don’t think I can find better than 2 Many DJs, that’s great call.

My first thoughts were Daft Punk: Discovery; Jay Z: The Blueprint; Dizzee Rascal: Boy in da Corner, but I think 2 Many DJs gets it.

Was that at the venue, with the moldy peaches in support? Killer gig if so.

I can’t come up with anything better than original pirate material. 2 many djs also a great shout.

Not that I actually like it that much but what about Dizzee Rascal Boy in Da Corner. Incredibly raw, fresh and influential of what came after

I saw them at the Corn Exchange, I can’t remember who supported them.

I just can’t pin down one album out of a particular year out of a decade, let alone from the whole decade!
One that springs to mind, after a track was played on 6Music, was Phoebe Bridgers ‘Stranger In The Alps’, and ‘Motion Sickness’; it made a strong and lasting impression on me, highlighting controlling behaviour on the part of people in the music industry.

    Other stand-out albums and artists have been, thanks to 6Music, and their highlighting the work of a bunch of Canadian artists and musicians whose existence I was completely unaware of;

    Arcade Fire – Funeral

    Big Thief – Capacity

    Broken Social Scene

Courtney Barnett – Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit.

The Dears – No Cities Left

    DJ Shadow – Endtroducing

Elbow – Asleep At The Back

Gemma Hayes – Night On My Side

    Goldfrapp – Felt Mountain

Hurray For The Riff Raff – Small Town Heroes

Kris Delmhorst – Song For A Hurricane

Laura Marling – Alas, I Cannot Swim

    Metric – Live It Out

The New Pornographers – Twin Cinema

    TOOL – Lateratus

Wolf Parade – Apologies to the Queen Mary

    Obviously…

    Draft 7.30 – Autechre

    One of favourite tracks
