Perhaps bullying is perhaps a strong word

    Yeah, I think so…

People disagreeing is not an issue. People deliberately misconstruing and misrepresenting what is said is.

I said nothing about bullying, misrepresentation number 1. I also pointed out where some examples of bullying might be so that’s misrepresentation number 2.

I also pointed out that I don’t know for certain to what bullying squirellking was referring.

As for binners last post, it basically sims up to being I wouldn’t like that for my child so therefore no one would/should. Perhaps it’s not a bad option for everyone or perhaps it’s a least worst position.

The year in sexism from the Guardian…

    January
The beginning of the year saw Rita Ora lambasted for showing too much cleavage on The One Show (as reported by the same publications that routinely publish entire articles about cleavage). Nigel Farage made a boob of himself by demanding that breastfeeding mums should sit in the corner, and the Sun succumbed to the No More Page 3 campaign with all the grace of a toddler throwing a screaming tantrum.

    February
The trailer for Magic Mike XXL gave columnists the opportunity to declare that “men are now objectified more than women”. Feminists might have responded with any one of a million recent examples suggesting otherwise, had they been able to stop laughing long enough.

    April
Nicola Sturgeon was among many female politicians derided in the run-up to the general election.
As the general election approached, the media decided the best way to critique female politicians’ policies was to Photoshop their heads onto scantily clad models, create cartoons of their cleavage and devote more column inches to their shoes than their views. Strangely, their male colleagues’ wardrobes went largely undiscussed.

Plenty more here for knuckle draggers to deny.

What’s all this post examples, show evidence crap? This is an internet forum not a dissertation.

Well it’s a bit pointless having a debate when people just make things up or make wild assertions that they can’t back up.

I said nothing about bullying, misrepresentation number 1.

I directly quoted you up there referring to binners posts as bullying. 😕

It’s hilarious/ridiculous that apparently the author of the article needs to lighten up but you can’t handle having the piss taken out of you without jumping on an enormous high horse.

People disagreeing is not an issue. People deliberately misconstruing and misrepresenting what is said is.

More comical hypocrisy. You’ve repeatedly tried to claim that people are calling for censorship and banning calendars like this, which no-one has suggested at any point.

    Crumbs this thread is interesting

Squirelking your end paragraph is probably what ost if us think in general but the rest is just attacking one side. Examples habe neem [osted of one side being rude about Binners and yet you still only seem to think one side have beenrunde – IMHO there has abeen a fairly reasoable balance of people being disrepectful to the other side. For every post of someone calling them dinosaurs there is someone calling is hanf ringing do gooders. Its ironic , that in you appeal to be more even handed you fail so spectacularily yourself

Really grum, out of all the dross on this thread and thats the bit you pick out?

I thought that was pretty restrained.

Perhaps you’d like to explain how binners later contributions were remotely constructive and not some vain, pathetic and bullying attempt at shutting down the debate.

THen you gothtis which is not the epitome of niceness followed by an absolute refusal to bother to back uo what he said, You are correct its not a dissertation, though no one has mistaken it nor claimed it was such. However it is not an arena where you can just throw claims out and not be expected to provide the evidence for your claim…just like real life

As for how folk are on o here i can assure you that if someone at my work tried to place such a calendar at work – it would probably breach the law so probably not the best place to use an example I would be eas frank to their face as i am being on here about how outdated and inappropriate their views are.

OK so you said nothing about bullying except for the bit where you said about bullying, and if someone said you said something about bullying, even though i have quoted it, they are misrepresenting you
Think you cleared that one and thankfully this is also not a dissertations so such a lack of clarity of thought carries no punishment. IH and forgive me for using evidence there.

Plenty of people on both sides of the debate have kept it civil (Cumberlanddan and Molgrips spring to mind) why can’t you?

We must be reading a different dan here if he is being civil.

Basically Binners has given up reasoned debate n the main and is using sarcasm and humour to make his point Dan is replying with more insulting sarcasm and personal attacks as a reply. Binners are funnier but I am be blinded by the fact I would not say this as respectfully as dan the man has.

Seriously though, does all this shite binners keeps posting actually make anyone think “What a great guy, i wish i could be like him”?

WHo does not “bully” * and has kept it respectful

Odd thread and bizarre you want to portray yourself as victims of bullying tbh. OBjects of derision but not bullying

    * i dont think anyone has bullied on here but the expression of opinions, from all sides self included, have not always been respectful.

    So.. Could I reiterate..?

Before we all go throwing around accusations of bullying, could we take a moment to consider what the word means, and whether it’s appropriate in this context

Junkyard, apologies if I wasn’t as even handed as I could have been but binners has been the worst most recently, I was deliberately ignoring the other glaring example since everyone else has but suffice to say we have an ex army (or at least forces) trans member I’d love to watch them repeat their performance in front of. And I beg to differ that he has been respectful in the slightest, excusing his behavour as sarcasm is just pulling out that Edinburgh Defence you like so much isn’t it?

I’d say Dan has been pretty even handed to be honest, I disagree with him (when is anyone going to actually read what side of the fence I’m on here?) but that doesn’t mean I’m blind to the shite that’s being thrown his way. At least you have the good grace to admit that you’ve not always been respectful rather than throwing toys out the pram.

As someone said umpteen pages ago, play the game, not the ball. Or some other crap football analogy that sounds as much a muchness to me.

What is the shite that’s being thrown his way? Pulling him up on:

Making things up that other people have said then criticising them for that, rather than what they’ve actually said
Pretending he hasn’t said things that he has
    Throwing around accusations of bullying
Refusing to back up his claims
Implying that binners is a ****

I dont think you can claim you are playing the ball here can you* 🙄

My mistake it was not an accident it was a deliberate polemic masquerading as an appeal for balance 😕 You have done what you are asking us not to do each post face palm pic here.

At least you have the good grace to admit that you’ve not always been respectful rather than throwing toys out the pram.

Rita ora, people with a greater understanding of feminism than I please help me out here.
She is a self professed feminist yet has a calendar, has done plenty of glamour shots displaying her breasts on more than one occasion. So does that alone outrule her from being able to claim she’s a feminist.

Where has this come from, Are you inferring that anyone who does not have a problem with this calendar will automatically believe that housework was woman’s work. Some leap.

So any one who believes modelling fashion or glamour is a legitimate career for a female (or male) would not equally agree that marine biology was also a great career for a female (or male)

I think it should be reminded that there is no ‘one version’ of reality (IMO, because I’m sure there’s some externalists out there)and that everyone interprets what’s written in these threads through their own lens, values and belief systems….

That’s why people often claim someone else has misunderstood them..

It’s also frickin hard to put into words what you’re thinking in your head…

And no doubt, what i am trying to say here will be interpreted differently by everyone else…. 😀

So if someone’s daughter became a model it would have been because of social conditioning but if she becomes a marine biologist it will be despite of it. Thanks mate.

In truth she can do either, in theory. But we all know the sort of unspoken thing, don’t we? My daughter is quite middle class really. Not ‘Waitrose/Home Counties’ middle class like most on here, but, you know… not a bad area, nice school, good grades, despite being in the north*. Northern Lower Midddle Class-ish

Whereas everyone knows that glamour models doing photoshoots like this don’t come from there. They come from grim council estates in some god-forsaken hole like Doncaster. And its their decision to go into it because despite the multitude of opportunities society offers them, in a nation built on social mobility, meritocracy, and most importantly: gender equality, plentiful opportunity for all classes and sexes, they just chose to get their norks out instead.

I suppose its easy money, when you’ve left school with no GCSE’s as you were probably bunking off, smoking weed, taking legal highs, and shoplifting. Its a good living for the inherently feckless. And who knows where it could lead? A saucy schoolgirl photoshoot in Razzle? A regular slot at a lap dancing club. One of those inexplicable underwear-clad Dear Diedre photo problem pages in the Sun, or if they work on their regional accents, and learn which cutlery to use, some work as an escort in City Centre Hotels, servicing businessmen

Was that what you meant? That kind of ’empowerment’?

Sorry if thats putting words in your mouth. Its just how I interpreted this statement from your mate Dan

As for binners last post, it basically sims up to being I wouldn’t like that for my child so therefore no one would/should. Perhaps it’s not a bad option for everyone or perhaps it’s a least worst position.

If you really don’t like a company’s marketing ethos that much…simple, don’t buy or associate your self with that brand. In the meantime, there is no need to preach your views.

This has been a nasty and dim-bulb thread for most of the 17 pages, but this stands out as intriguingly wrong.

The young lady likes Maxxis tyres, she doesn’t like their marketing. She’s told them, and they appear to have modified it. One can speculate, but it seems reasonably likely that they’d prefer more money from women, and are happy to be told when they’re not helping themselves on that front.

Calendars containing naked ladies will continue to be available in the wider economy, and I very much doubt anyone who proudly displays one in their garage will shift their business to Schwalbe in protest at the change of tack.

All this sort of incident is, is (some) women providing fairly vocal feedback that a brand’s marketing is alienating them unnecessarily. I find it difficult to understand how we can honestly say that a customer expressing an opinion rather than simply changing the brand they buy has someone got out of line or done something wrong.

there is no need to preach your views

This sounds a tiny bit “Women, know your place”. I’m not 100% sure whether it was meant in precisely that way.

    🙂

Junkyard, I’m as honest as I can be, I’ll put up my hands when I’ve done something wrong and often do. That comment honestly wasn’t intended as a dig by the way, nor a backhanded compliment.

And I’d like to play the game if someone else will play with me rather than just attacking the rest of the players.

I’m not sure what the heck your second paragraph is supposed to mean, it looks broken.

Binners, that’s not even a leap as opposed to the sort of heavy lift launching any advanced space-faring nation would be proud of. To be honest it says a lot about your own mentality that you think that’s what Dan is even remotely implying.

Ah so glamour models are poorly educated chavs, brilliant not offensive at all, not sure you are serious in that statement.
Glamour models have gone on to be TVs presenters. Actors tv and film Successful business people. Did not one even marry a former pms son.nand I am hazarding a guess many have a great education unless you can prove me wrong.
Not to mention many sports stars, actors, musicians and cebrities in general don’t mind baring their flesh in magazines and calendars.
Many young woman do promotional modelling to pay there way though uni.
