I’m keen for the ride, email in profile, tend to ride Leigh Woods cheeky stuff on a Tuesday and Thursday, and always up for an away trip.

The bike path – it’s likely if you rode it on a weekend, sunny day, in the summer, it would be very busy, so I see how you would get that opinion. In the week, or quieter weekends, it’s quite peaceful and fairly empty.

    Another Bristol convert here.

7 years and counting. There’s tonnes of riding from the door road and MTB. I’m still finding more bits to link up larger MTB routes, LW, 50 acre, Belmont, Wraxall, Flax Bourton, all the way to the Mendips. It’s ace!

Road riding is great South, North and West (don’t know about East).

And surf day trips are easily doable.

The danger of the beermuda triangle sucking you in and inhibiting riding is a serious issue, especially on sunny bank holiday Fridays… oh.

It might not have cars, but it has (or had, when I went on it) a shitload of traffic! It was rammed with casual cyclists and walkers, and had lycrad up roadies trying to force their way through at 20mph. Very unpleasant – if I’d had a map I would’ve been looking out for some country lanes to go on instead.

I use it every single weekday both riding to and from work and to go out for beers in the evening and quite a few Saturdays/sundays and don’t really encounter this problem.

It can get hectic at times. I commute on it daily but during school holidays I take the bridleways through Weston/Kelston/North Stoke instead.

I guess in a way Bristol is a bit like a couple of areas of London put together to make a small city.

you have lots and lots of diversity ranging from the posh Clifton bit, the family redland bit, the green downs bit, cotham is a bit old bristol with lots of Georgian houses.

I came down in 1999 and have never left, except I now live out in the countryside and have a bit of a somerset twang, especially when I am talking about my traaaacher (tractor).

If I was buying again in Bristol it would have to either be Cotham or Stoke Bishop very close to the Downs. I understand why people like Southville and Gloucester Road areas but they are just not my cup of tea.

Currently working away offshore but due back this coming week. Keen for a meet up for ride & cider/beers. Only back for a week then off for a few weeks again. I’m sure we can sort something. It’s great to hear from so many Brizzle residents on here. Big up the Brizzle massive (& Molgrips too, providing ‘balance’ 😉 )

    & Molgrips too, providing ‘balance’

Like that one guy that denies climate change that the BBC keep bringing out to provide ‘balance’ to the debate and show they are impartial.

Only thing I can imagine making me move away from Bristol in the medium term would be a job abroad – can’t think of many in the UK that would tempt me away.

I’m also not a big fan of the path – but if I’m trying to get somewhere I prefer to use the most direct route – I commuted on the a4 to bath when I worked there as the path was so much further, and frankly, pretty dull imo.

Only thing I wished is that ac/lw was a bit closer to St George!

Look, I rode on a path, it was very busy, which made it not fun.

It’s not meant to be fun per se it’s for getting places without traffic. There is some fun to be had in getting there with minimum inconvenience to others and yourself. The fact it is busy is good news and we should be pressing for more of the same.

I live (and thankfully work) just outside of Bristol. It seems a nice enough city to me, lots of decent bars & restaurants and OK shopping/markets. It’s crazy expensive housing though, even in dodgy areas a couple of miles out from the centre and the traffic is bad enough that I’d never work in the centre unless I could walk there from where I lived (or could cycle + the company had decent facilities).
There’s good local MTBing and road riding and a decent amount of clubs covering both (although mostly road) if that’s your thing.
As I don’t go out on the town/to eat much these days I would only want to live there if my job location demanded it – I prefer being on the suburbs so I can go into Bristol when it suits but be far enough away the traffic and house prices aren’t such an issue.

Wow, this thread has run on a bit and seems to have turned into a STW meet up!

I’m up for a group ride with other like minded bristolians – mail in my profile if one gets arranged.

And back to the OP, whilst Cardiff is also a great and probably trumps riding from your door, if you’re working in Bristol then living in Cardiff isn’t so great.

As to where to live in the city if you do move. I suspect that will be governed by where you work and budget. IME I do find Bristol much more expensive (rent and buying) to live than Cardiff, but with salaries broadly similar.
