    Hi,
I’ve bought and am awaiting delivery of a 1st gen Rocket 275 frame. I plan to use my 26” wheels on it for the time being, for which I’ll need a 12×142 hub conversion kit. The hub manufacturer says their end caps must be used with their axle, so my question is: Will their axle fit in the Rocket, instead of the Syntace? If not, is there another way around it short of buying a new rear hub?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Perhaps they mean the hubs axle rather than the frames axle.

The frames axle is a system which includes the dropouts so no you can’t use a goldtech axle instead.

If the hub will convert to 142×12 then is should work with the frame.

As above, they mean their endcaps (these) only work with a specific hub axle (this one), presumably the 135×10 QR axle is different.

The frame should come with its own Syntace X-12 142×12 through axle which will work with the converted hub, or any other 142×12 hub.

    OK, this sounds promising.
So it’s not quite the same as a front hub? I’ve a Syntace X-20 there and it just goes straight through.
Can you please spell out what I’ll need to convert my rear hub, the 12×135 axle and the 142 end caps? And the frame’s Syntace X-12 will work in conjunction?

I realise I’m about 10 years late to the party, would probably have stuck with QR.

Assuming you have a “Goldtec Pro Comp” rear hub:
At a minimum, you will need the 142 end caps. If the axle in your hub is already the “135×12” one, the endcaps should just fit, otherwise you will need to swap the hub axle as well (much like an old Hope Pro hub). I am not sure what the difference between the hub axles is, or if there is any – you should contact BETD or whoever makes those hubs.

The principle is the same as in the front hub, the 12mm axle goes through the hub and fastens into one side of the frame (see the image in my previous post). The purpose of the conversion is to get a 12mm hole all the way through the hub and to have an “over locknut distance” of 142mm.

Thanks for the clarification, I know exactly what you mean now. Might have figured it out if I had it in front of me, but I’m hungover at the mother-in-law’s.

Fortuitously, BETD are about 3 miles up the road, so I’ll go and see them, knowing just what I need.

    Cheers!!
